I have a 68 B body with fresh nice paint. I need to pull the motor, Can it be removed with the hood on? Ive done it on several A bodies but not a B.

Best way is to remove from the bottom.

yep,, leave the spindles and upper control arms in place.
Pull the fan and pulleys and you can leave the radiator in place.
I take K frame , front suspension , engine and trans out as one unit. getting it lowered past an H pipe exhaust can be a bit of a hassle but not terrible.
So much easier this way ,,IMO

Some of the car factories put engines in that way back in the 50s, and before, but they had special equipment and so forth that we don't.

I have always pulled my motors out the top with the hood off....but then again, I wasn't worried about scratching new paint

On a '68 B body, I'd be surprised if you can get the motor out w/ the hood still on.

I removed a small block from a 73 charger with the hood on.

I've done a bunch with oil filt off if bb. Have carb off, rad out, and hook it low on engine. Sometimes you can take front hood hinge bolts out and prop hood up an extra inch or two with one of them adjustable hood prop tools. Take your time and carefully done , it's cake.

Break out your measuring tape. Compare space between rad support & hood to height of long-block + lift bracket & hoist arm. You'll want the shortest possible height above the engine, but still be able to drop it onto its mounts (hoist travel).
It's really handy to have an adjustable tilting bracket.
Did an install like that on a Duster once: SB, big Milodon pan, trans attached, hood on. Tight fit, had to work carefully, but not a mark on anything. Used the usual towels & blankets.

Do you have a good cherry picker?
If so I would remove the intake and use a good thick 3/8 inch diameter chain and bolt it onto the most rear passenger side intake bolt(throttle return bracket bolt on stock heads) and the left front throttle return bolt hole and keep the chain as short as possible and go for it up scope twocents
If you don't experiment you don't learn shruggy grin
Some lessons aren't as pleasurable as others whistling

I've used this to remove and install a bunch of engines in 62-3 Bs and never removed the hood. Used this at least 10 times on just my 63 race car.

I just can't see that removal from the bottom would ever be the thing to do.

My first time from the bottom worked pretty good for me. It seemed a little less nerve racking then when coming out the top. The frame has come in handy for getting the old/new motor, and rear end on and of the truck as well. The investment in materials, including the dolly was about the same of as Harbor Freight hoist. not sure top sure if transmission fluid is supposed to spill out when removing the drive shaft though. frown

Use a plastic plug in the trans tail housing if there's fluid in it.

Soon as I pulled the drive shaft it started gushing out...first time I ever encountered that.

Also you may gain a little clearance by jacking up the rear of the car.
