Has anybody swapped to smaller brackets on a car with a 100 amp alternator? Can I run older brackets from a 60 amp alternator with the bigger altenator if I change the brackets and pulleys???

Tough Stuff sells a bolt on direct Mopar replacement 100 amp alternator that is black powder coated that works very well, even without replacing any wires Mount and plug it in and go I used one for many years on my old pump gas Duster, I will use them again on another street car

back in the days, the 100 amps alt was called Leece neville alts which uses a quite diff alternator bracket setup. Is not really about the output but the diff manufacturer alternator( pic posted )
At this moment you can get 100 and up to 130 amps alt from tuff stuff, and several other manufacturers on the same casing of the regular alts so keeping the existant brackets. These newer alts should be on around 60 amps rate at iddle which should be quite enough. Sooooo I wouldn't take care about the brackets for 100 amps Leece neville alts unless you reall want those for whatever reason.
you can get even a 78 amps stock alts from earlier to mids 80s which will fit nice too and works, on stock replacemenet price rate. they are A BIT wider, maybe couple of mm, so fits a bit tighter. Is the one I'm running ( driver with AC ) and I trimmed a bit the rear spacer and got a bit longer belts to sway the rear of alt from block.

I hear the Leece Neville units work well but are real heavy (alt+bracketry). I have one but its still on the shelf.

That's the setup I want to remove. Big, bulky, not too attractive. Like my ex.... I had a new PowerMaster 100 amp on my Jensen, it only lasted a few months before it stopped charging, so I guess I just worry the newer stuff looks great on paper but it ain't high in the quality department...... Is Tuff Stuff a good name as far as quality goes? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

as far I know they are good quality. I have known one got failed from a member on DC.com, but was replaced without questions, and got it working.
Just would need to get the regular brackets I guess. If AC car, they get an extra attaching point on engine mount provision on block ( if BB ). And upper bracket is a bit diff and smaller from non AC cars

this would be the A/C setup... where I guess the upper OR the rear provision to head is diff between RB and B same as the non A/C got the upper front ebay link bracket setup AC

With an aftermarket alt I had heard way back that keeping the OE style 3 wire type was better than a 1 wire alt. Any thoughts?

From my research, in a stock daily driver type situation I think that's right. This late '80's mopar truck nip alternator is my best choice maintaining stock brackets, I think? Robert
