More and more cars are coming with the start/stop feature to save fuel I for one hate it. I own an 2017 Audi and they all have it. It is annoying as hell and every once in a while in certain condition, the car does not start up when you want to go. Have to put it in Park and restart. Happened to me once. One thing good about Audi, you can buy an OBD device and customize some of the vehicle programming. One of those things I was able to do is disable the start/stop. It will now remember last position of the start/stop button w/o having to push it every time after a restart.

Think of this too, can you imagine the wear and tear of that starter? Battery/alt wear when car is off, headlights on, heater on, rear window defrost on, wipers on, when car turns off at a traffic light? Battery condition also dictates if the start/stop will activate. If batt is low, engine will stay on during stops or if a/c is on too. At least on my Audi.

So I totally understand OP's distaste of that feature. Friend hates it in his Mercedes too.

Hybrids are a different animal. Im only referring to gas only models.

Yes, if the battery isn't up all the way it doesn't work, but guess what, this thing has two batteries. I don't know if the non stop/start cars have two or not. And yes I am thinking about the starter, and battery being worked to death.

A lot of cars with this feature are either using a second electric motor or a different starter that is a permanent magnet, high cycle motor. So wear and tear on starter should be a non issue. Also, as mentioned, I think some cars have dual batteries. I know thought I heard that there is a push to go to 24V and/or 48V electrical systems on cars due to amount of electronics.

I know my Audi has 1 battery and 1 starter. It is 900cca batt. My friends Mercedes has 1 batt and 1 starter. Don't know about the Mopars.

On cars I've seen with the auto stop/start the owners manual says how to disable it yourself or have the dealer do it through their programming.

Took me all of thirty seconds to get used to it. Now I sort of like it, as it’s a sort of simple, yet elegant piece of engineering.

I too find the start / stop feature very annoying in my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is standard on the V6 engine for that year.
I dislike it when I get to my destination and the engine stops when I come to a complete stop, then restarts as soon as I put the vehicle in park to shut it off again!.
Vehicle does have an additional battery for the stop / start. Mine was replaced under warranty at the 1 year mark.

Exactly. It is there to save fuel and emissions, take advantage of it.

I do not have Start/Stop but if I'm at a train crossing or stopped to pick somebody up. I turn my engine OFF.
