A lot of cars with this feature are either using a second electric motor or a different starter that is a permanent magnet, high cycle motor. So wear and tear on starter should be a non issue. Also, as mentioned, I think some cars have dual batteries. I know thought I heard that there is a push to go to 24V and/or 48V electrical systems on cars due to amount of electronics.

Took me all of thirty seconds to get used to it. Now I sort of like it, as it’s a sort of simple, yet elegant piece of engineering. Exactly. It is there to save fuel and emissions, take advantage of it. I do not have Start/Stop but if I'm at a train crossing or stopped to pick somebody up. I turn my engine OFF.
