Bob,
Broadcast Sheet Axle Code 015
ALLEGEDLY, Code 015, at least as far as info I have seen to this point, indicates that for 71 E-Body with 3.23 standard axle, with 11" rear brakes and 7260 u-joints (both of which I have) shows the spec requires the 1-7/8" 489 diff. Sorry to disappoint any previously published info!!! Also, the date codes on the gearset are dead on for my car, and the diff assembly date (2/9/71) AND the ratio (3.23) are STAMPED DIRECTLY INTO THE DIFF CASE. No tag under and mounting nut.
I will also state without question that my car was 100 % untouched prior to my acquisition, as verified by conversation with the original owner, as well as my observations during disassembly.

Thanks Bill, The info for my 014 is wrong in the white book listing it as a 3:55sg but the broadcast sheet list it as a 3:23 open Bob

the "016" axle is a 489 case 7290 pinion w/3.23 ratio OPEN & 10" brakes the "017" axle is a 489 case 7290 pinion w/3.23 ratio Sure-Grip & 10" brakes the "018" axle is a 489 case 7290 pinion w/3.23 ratio OPEN & 11" brakes the "019" axle is a 489 case 7290 pinion w/3.23 ratio Sure-Grip & 11" brakes

So what is the trigger between getting a "015" vs. a "018" - my 71 340 Challenger is a 4 speed and Bill's 71 cuda 340 is an automatic yet we both have "015" ???? for 1971 E-body 3.23:1 OPEN 8-3/4" rear axle - it looks like it is as simple as small block VS. big block (can't confirm where the 383 2bbl ends up?) 10" brakes = "014" (318 & 340) 741 VS. "016" (383 4bbl, 6bbl, HEMI) 489& 11" brakes = "015" (318 & 340) 741 VS. "018" (383 4bbl, 6bbl, HEMI) 489

That is the 1970 chart as mentioned above. It appears to have been stolen & modified though........ For the record, no one has permission to take images from HH, let alone modify them. Let me get this straight, you "steal" it from Chrysler, put your website watermark on it so it's yours? Oh Please, take your ball and go home.
