Was at Walmart today to buy some Freon for a project. They have a 12oz can for $5 = Floron 134a, and they have a 12oz can for $15 = synthetic refrigerant R134a. Besides the $, whats the difference???

If you google the question you will find that the synthetic is just a marketing gimmick. Save yourself some money and by the cheaper one. Remember it is sold by weight.
Also the term "Freon" is actually a long time trade name of DuPont's for the CFC refrigerants that they invented back in 1930.
134a is a HFC refrigerant, irregardless for years the term Freon has been used by the public as a generic name for all refrigerants.
Just like Xerox and Kleenex have been. So much for the history lesson......

As of Jan 1 2018 it is now illegal to purchase more than 2 12 oz cans of 134a refrigerant. We just sat through a class in November that ay you must now be certified.

You were supposed to be certified years ago.Had to take a test when i was at the shop like 25 years or so ago to do AC ans supposdly to buy freon.Never was asked about it.Going to 134 was one of the biggest jokes ever.Wonder what they will come up with when the patents run out on it.Rocky

You never had to be certified for 134a, they suggested years ago to get it but now the retailers are subject to fine if they sell to non certified people, in quantities of two 12 oz cans or more.

← Can you afford the fines for not complying with Section 609 certification?Engine cooling fans-enough time? →
After January 1, 2018, Section 609 certification is required to purchase refrigerant

Please be aware after January 1, 2018 a Section 609 certification card will be required to purchase R-12, R-134a, or R-1234yf cylinders of 2 pounds or more.
Distributors will be required to keep records of certified technicians purchasing refrigerant.
Click here to read the regulations on the EPA website.
Click here to learn about and obtain Section 609 certification from MACS Worldwide. Cost $20.
Click here to learn how to replace missing or lost Section 609 MACS or IMACA credentials. There is a $10 replacement fee.
If you are already Section 609 certified your credentials are good for life. There is no mandatory re-certification required by EPA, however the Section 609 training program was updated as of 1/1/2015 and includes information on the new refrigerant R-1234yf. If you’d personally like to expand your knowledge visit our website and download the study guide.
Click here to learn about EPA Fines for not being Section 609 certified see CAA fines. Maximum daily fine $44,539.

Seems we were mislead in the class. We were told in quantities of 2 cans or more. NOT true. Seems that we can buy as many cans as we want at once without certification. The containers must be 2lbs or more.

So true... We have a local station now giving 10 day forecasts. Useless information. My wife calls it "more fake news".

It depends on where you get your news as to weather you believe the ice caps are melting. When ice melts in a glass of water does the level of the water rise?

They are always going to be melting and refreezing with or without our help.

I do believe that Solar Flares have more influence on Earths weather than many media types will tell you about work scope
Many influential world leaders and scientist know how to make the world a better place as far as the deterioration of our worlds resources and the effect people have on the weather work
Most of them don't have the backbone or will power to take the needed actions to make this happen in their own country, let alone in the rest of the world work whiney

When fresh water ice melts in a salty ocean it will displace more when melted.

Well crap. Now I'm going to have to do a dining table experiment to test this.

Actually, you are totally correct. 134a is not even an ozone depleting chemical (ODS). It is however a green house gas (GHG). OBAMA was so he** bent on controlling GHGs that he went after 134a under the ODS rules for the greater good. I believe that there are some legal actions ongoing due to his overstepping the authority granted under theses rules.

When I run out of my 134a supply I'm think about going with this stuff.

http://duracool.com/Duracool/faqs.html

I'm actually thinking about selling my 134a supply because this stuff looks so good.

An iceberg (which is fresh water) floats in an ocean approximately 10-13% of it is above the ocean. So when it melts it displaces about 13% more of the of the iceberg into the ocean. Ice in a glass of fresh water floats even with the level of the water in the glass, thereby not displacing any more than the cube itself. We all know that salt water has more buoyancy.

My memory may not have this correct, isn't sea water, salt water, denser and heavier per gallon than fresh water?
What happens to the salt when sea water evaporates from the massive solar flairs whistling
AKA, our world purifies sea water through evaporation and returns it to us as fresh water boogie
2/3, maybe it is 3/4, of the world is covered in water, correct work
The world population is increasing all over the world, who, which area, is doing the most damage to our planet work
I do know that the U.S. cleans up the air entering it from the west coast compared to when it leaves the east coast going towards Europe up work
