Has to be the switch. Does it still click when operated?

Sounds like the switch to me. They were, at least up until a few years ago, still available at most auto parts stores under the HELP brand.

Fairly notorious for the dimmer switch to go out. My Dad had a '67 Belvedere II s/w he bought new that had the dimmer go out one night when car was about 5 yrs. old. Dad didn't cuss a lot but he had me blushing at 17 that night. biggrin

Bad dimmer switch can cause this as mentioned above & it is cheap & easy to change.

they are cheap as barry says, but the quality is cheap as well. as most of us don't use our toys as daily drivers, they might last. but while you are buying one, you might as well get two. the last ones i bought at the swap meet was $3.50 for three of 'em, new in the box. i'm not expecting much, but one of those are in use on my cousin's 28 "f-f-f", [i CAN'T say the word !] roadster pickup and works well.
