Hey Guys,

I'm doing a little research and trying to determine when Chrysler switched over from the large inertial ring driveshaft to one without the ring. It was sometime in 1969

Who here has a 1969 car with an original inertia ring driveshaft and what was your build date?

I have two cars with that driveshaft. One was built late Oct '68 and the other early Nov '68. Pic attached for reference.

I have a '68 Sport Satellite convertible that has one. It's an original 383/4bbl 4spd car, build date of 4/68.

I have a 69 RR with a B08 SPD that has the ring. I am the original owner,it is original to the car. B08== Nov.8 1968

I have the driveshaft from a 69 GTX 4 speed that I parted out in the 80s and it has the ring. Will have to see if I still have the fender tag.

My '69 440 4-speed (#'s match) 3.54 Dana that has a SPD of C16 (has two consoles....JK) December 16, 1968 has the large inertial ring. It's an LA assembly plant build car.

this is a stupid question, and i may have heard the answer in the past but forgot [oldtimers disease], but what was the purpose of the ring [vibration absorption i presume], and as cheap as chrysler was, why didn't they just go to a slightly larger tube size to do the same thing ?
