Hey Mike Any thoughts on this? I would like to keep my car street able to keep the wife happy for trips etc... BUT, I would like to add a roll bar for the track. I Expect 10.50 1/4 mile times with the new motor. Is it acceptable to use a roll bar that can be unbolted and removed for car shows and trips. No way my grand kids could get in the back seat with a roll bar cross bar in the way.

6 x 6 plates, top and bottom, can be used to attach the bar to the floor with bolts in all locations. The bar itself is required to be fully welded (crossbar, rear braces, etc.) except for swing out side bars. I've done bolt in cross bars for folks, but they were told up front that it will not pass tech.
That being said, done properly, it's a lot better than nothing and it becomes an issue between you and the tech guy at your local track. I've been told that roll bar padding hides things like this from tech guys who are just glancing in the car.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

That's how we did my rear seat bar. It's a street car that will only see a couple track days per year. And yes the roll bar padding can hide it.

I hate them BUT to make the wife happy you have to do what you have to.. as said already.. add the extra plates.. if you want.. make them a through bolt set up.. that way you can pull the bar(un-bolt) and put plastic plugs in the floor to keep it dry(with silicone on them)... I put one bolt in bar in my life(was for my brother way back when).. he later asked for a weld in one

I had the same deal going on.... wife didn’t want a bar in the car, thought it would ruin the car. I always want buy-in from my wife on everything I do, so it doesn’t become divisive. But I refuse to spend money on something that is not NHRA legal. I always thought: who knows when you’ll be at the track all geeked up for a fun day, only to be told “sorry, you’re not making passes with this, and don’t come back until it’s fixed”. So I walked the pits with her one day last year and showed her some nice cars with nice tucked away bar setups. She realized it wasn’t going to “ruin” the car, so I’m in the process of installing a custom bent bar in the Satellite right now. The back seat thing does become an issue though. Good luck and hope you’re happy with the results.

The roll bar in my Demon is bolted in. I've never had a problem passing tech in any way.
