[ quote=qwkmopardan]I have pulled hi-tech modern dual pattern roller cams out of engines and went faster with 70s engineered racer brown flat tappets. All this so-called modern technology is just marketing to increase profits. [/quote]Me thinks your wrong on that Maybe you need a different brand of solid roller cams, I bought and used a bunch of Racer Browns flat tappet solid lifter cams in the late 1960 and early 1970 when he and Ed where still alive and running the business, once I switch to Cam Dynamics and later to Comp Cams solid flat tappet cams and then later to Comps solid Roller cams my race cars and my customers cars went faster and quicker But we did need to use a lot stiffer set of valve springs, matching keepers and retainers and better push rod to get the motors to RPM properly with the roller cams to work well What really surprised me was that the same roller cam specs at .050 compared to the identical flat tappet spec cams would fit in the motors better with out having to cut deeper valve reliefs in the old TRW/Speed Pro high compression race pistons we used back then on SB, BB and Hemi motors Those modern lobes where way better at making power than the old flat tappet lobes Racer designed and ground, especially the ones he designed and sold to Mopar for the Purple Shaft street program

The bottom line is, not every build/combo will need or respond favorably to the fastest ramp, tightest lash, highest lift cam profile available.
There are many applications where the purple cams work just fine.
When they were $199 for a cam/lifter kit, they were a great bargain. At $399+, they have priced themselves into obsolescence.

I have absolutely no idea as to why anyone would want to use one of those things except for being "nostalgic". Soooo many better options out there. Put simply? They work! ...or at least they did. I loved the .528 solid in my '71 'Cuda. I also ran the .484 in a stock 440 in my '63 and it worked perfectly! Nowdays, I have a hard time giving MP ANY money. They slap their name on someone else's product and mark it up waaay more than they used to! I refuse to run the Mopar Performance logo on anything I own.

The nicest thing about these cams is not only did they work, but they didn’t require the spring pressures the cams need now. We ran this crap forever with zero maintenance.

Yes we did. Maximum power is not always the number one consideration. I used an old Cam Dynamics/Mopar .620-.640 Super Stock roller that they sold years ago. Made decent power, valve springs lived a couple of years, didn't break parts. Did everything I wanted it to do in that particular application.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.
