Looking to start in on the front end on my 10.0 65 Satellite. Car came with 318 poly. I want to replace the old bars with something that isn't 42 years old. so what is the best bar for a 10.0 race car?

Mopar made drag race specific torsion bars. I think they were .840 diameter? They were sold out when I built my car so I used 6 cylinder bars.

I'm running the 340 bars .840 iirc and they work great w/the BB compared to the .810's that were a bit too sloppy............ thumbs

Mine are either .86 or .88, I don't remember which. They came out of a 318 car if that helps.

I know the A body bars are thinner than the B or E bodies had for the same engine.

.810 MP drag bars in my small block A-body, 3100lbs., that sees street time, and has 600 hp on tap, and then add the nitrous. They are not strong enough, and have too much stored energy, especially for a ladder bar car at this power level. Just ordered the .890 bars from Summit.

Summit carries the Mopar Performance B body bars in .920 and .960, I would measure what you have now, and then decide.

racerx can pull the front wheels in a car wash, that thing is loose!

I run the slant six bars in my A-body. She is a fat fish though at 3600lbs. They are doing fine holding up the R1 Block with W2 heads which I assume approaches big block territory for weight. I have some thinner race bars to try but I haven't felt I needed them.

Note some of the comments above on small bars.

I ran 6 cylinder bars for a very short time. But, just driving around the pits the thing was bouncy/sloppy to the point I took them out.

Also, I've been running 50 year old bars on my cars for years.

They might be like thermostats. A good working used one is better than a untested new one.

Hi Billy, that's a pretty big jump in #/inch.

.810 = 90 #/in
.890 = 130 #/in from the mp chassis book.
.850 (318) bars is not listed in the chassis book. .20" in diameter goes up 10 #/in so I figure mine are 110 #/in

Years ago I wanted new bars in my Barracuda I got the .890 (resto 383) I did not like em! I sold them and got .850 (318) bars, swap meet.

I didn't get the load transfer I needed with the .890 bars. That was with my 451 ci 660 HP.

I have a BB and when I used the .810 drag bars they barely held up the front. sold them also.

Let us know how they work. Yours is a street car while mine is drag only.
Do you feel older?

Don

There is some variation in QC with the new bars. Firm Feel is good and MP (when they were available) seemed OK. Some of the others not so much.

If your old bars do not show deep scratches or other damage on visual inspection they should be fine to run IMO.

I've had no issue with the stock 6 cylinder bars, 550 passes so far.

I would and have used six cylinder bars in BB A and B bodies in all of my stock front end drag cars up
A good set of front double adjustable front shocks will help you a lot also up scope

Dam that thing looks good. What rear suspension are you using? Not to hijack the thread lol.

I stil run the factory 383 bars that came in my car. Its an original 383 car and I figured I would try them and they work fine for me. Ron
