Going to a stroker means grinding away some of the stock pickup boss and could weaken the threaded area. When using a stroker we usually install a plug in the thread and then grind for clearance. If your going to a stroker and it's for drag race only we suggest as others mentioned the external system. You can plug the stock pickup with a plug at the area where the tube threaded in or at the port in the block where the oil pump bolts on.

People like to argue. I bought a set of NPS taps back in the 1970's for for putting drain plugs into aluminum Muncie transmission cases. They work fine for putting a tapered pipe plug into the straight hole. You don't end up with a plug that is sunk down like you will when someone taps a hole with a tapered pipe tap.

having worked with NPT and NPS threads over my 42+yr career as a machinist, almost every time an NPT male fitting is screwed into a female NPS that has a somewhat thin wall cross section, a crack WILL happen. as said, it acts just like a wedge. it may not happen upon installation, [unless tightened enough to crack, which is tough to say just how tight is tight] but if any vibration is involved, it will crack eventually.

As AHY said. Keep the pickup submerged. In my opinion is the most important thing in any oiling system. And the external system would be the only way to go, single line. For drag racing, baffles and a full cover windage tray. I did some very high tech testing on windage trays. Strapped my milodon flat bottom oil pan on the front of my quad. Ten quarts of water and did my hardest launch. Results were hilarious. I got soaked with at least 4 quarts of cold water. Did some changes to pan and windage tray. Two rows of baffles and closed both ends of windage tray. Left just the louvers and enlarged the ones on the right side for drain back. Same test, launch and brake hard. I didn't even get wet, Hallelujah! My point being, don't scrimp on your oiling system. A very large percentage of engine failures are because of oil starvation at launch and deceleration.

Just a few thoughts from my humble mind.

I went with the ext line to get away from tapping and easier pan removal, rod, main checks.

For the OP's proposed build plans and intended rpm range, I'd just run a 3/8" pick up.
