Who sells a front billet drum for a 727? I know A&A, Mancini and CRT do, does anyone else? Do you guys recommend an Alum or Steel one? Looking to replace the stock one, car is 3200 run's high 10's. Who's would you use and any fitment issues with any of them?

On a side note, when is the x-large piston required?

Track only, or dual purpose?

Call CRT and get a Billet Steel drum. We had an Aluminum drum but got tired of the fluid changes every 25 passes. Switched to a steel drum and saw no decrease in performance. Was able to go back to a once per season filter and fluid change. I think CRT sells the drum fully loaded with clutches and steels also.
CRT, A&A, Mancini, TCS etc..... They all sell them. I like dealing with John Cope at CRT.

I have the A&A steel drum in mine. Got it from CRT, no complaints.

I've run both from A&A. The billet steel is very heavy about 9 lbs. I saw increased band/clutch darkening using Alto friction material. My theory is that its harder to stop rotating the drum for 2nd gear and harder to reaccelerate for 3rd gear. The clutches/band looked like new after 125 passes with the aluminum drum about 5lbs. I change my fluid at 100-125 passes.

What about for street and strip low 10's high cloud 9 cars?

I'm guessing A&A's billet drum is able to hold a good amount of clutch packs.
I ask because there's some stout 10-9 cars here running both 27's and 04's with stock drums built by my man "Top Boy"
IIRC he has been able to stuff at the minimum 6 clutches on the stock Hemi front drum and about 4-5 in the rear of my heaps 65' Full manual VB push button double pump trans.
I now mainly do my burnouts starting in 2nd gear and into 3rd, but have done 'em in the past from 1st and shifting into 2nd immediately.

I bought the aluminum full metal jacket from 727Specialist for $687 fully loaded with his clutches. Keith doesn't like anything red in his trans. I do currently have a 2-3 flare up I haven't yet figured out. Gonna tighten the band to start.

Tightening the band has nothing to do with 2/3 flare. The K/D band releases on a 2/3 shift. 2/3 flare indicates the clutches in the forward drum are slipping on the shift. Causes; valve body issue, forward clutch feed passage issue, reaction shaft ring to drum seal issue, high gear clutch piston seal leakage, not enough clutch capacity for the apllication.

thank you for that info. I'm not a trans guy. I thought is was a timing issue with the front clutch apply and band release and figured tightening band might help. ill look at these other things you listed.
