So it looks like my "junk" shelf Valvoline tops most of the "real" oils............

Do we know all the oils he tested that didn't make the top 40. Has a joe Gibbs synthetic at #8. No Gibbs conventional or breakin oil on the top 40. Was it tested or not?

FWIW! the guy who did all that testing originally posted his ever-expanding test results on SpeedTalk .com and the majority of the engine builders who post there called bogus on them. One of the issues they raised most frequently was that his test method doesn't really duplicate the conditions of what oil is expected to do in a running engine. The other is that the guy refused to post any pictures of his testing equipment. I've read through his results and think they're "interesting", but not really the final detrmination of whether any particular oil is a good choice.

I know I've read a lot of testing on Diesel engine oil. I had about 10 gallon of 15/40 Napa Univeral Fleet oil gave to me. I found out it was made by Valvoline and it tested better than Delo and Rotella and that chart looks like he didn't test any Valvoline 15/40 Diesel Engine oil

Most here run too high a viscosity and too cold oil temps - to stay in their "mental" comfort zone. Latest blower motor I put together with "on the tight side clearance's" = Royal Purple full synthetic race oil - 10W30 ( which is still probably a little high ), and oil temps around 200 - 210. At idle = 25 psi and through the lights at 70psi.

I run 10W-30 HDEO in my high mileage slant six with the original oil pump and 75 psi hemi oil spring. Even in the hottest summer weather, I have no problem getting 75 psi above 2000 RPM. The Corvair Oil Article also recommends using HDEO with the right viscosity for engines with flat tappet valve trains. Enignes need oil FLOW and excessive viscosity just means more oil gets relieved to sump before reaching the bearings. See Engine Wear.
