I can get a very nice 89 short bed truck with a 3.9 manual trans. What would be any hurdles to swapping the 360 out of my 87 long bed automatic truck?
Will the manual trans bolt up?
Any other issues?

Thanks.

Are you trying to make a slow truck? 3.9's get about the same MPG as a 5.2.

Also, it's getting to the point even stock replacement parts for the 3.9 are drying up.

i swapped the V6 5 speed from in my '88 to the 318 auto from my '87. The drivers side motor mount had to be fabbed, and one of the trans cross member bolt hole didn't line up. And since I was going from a manual to automatic, I swapped the steering columns, which required the dash harness as well since the '88 had the dimmer and wipers on the turn signal switch.

The 3.9 manual trans stuff will bolt up to the 360, but the flywheel won't have the offset balance the 360 requires. You will need a 360 flywheel. All the other manual trans stuff should work. Do you know which manual trans is in the 89 truck?

There may be wiring/computer issues you will have to deal with, an 89 could tbi or carb. Gene
