Maple Grove was packed for a Friday yesterday. Reminded me of the old days. I hear Pittsburgh is having a big ol' party today themselves.

I was there today and yes it was packed all the food vendors were out of food hell Ritas sold out restocked at 3pm and sold out again in about an hour. It was a little warm but nice and sunny 85 degrees this event has struggled with rain for a couple years. I have gone to this event for 30 years been a long time since it was this packed

Fall event at Vegas usually sells out.... I haven't been to a national event in years. Should give it a whirl again sometime.

We all have our complaints about NHRA, but overall things are trending up.

Everybody used to complain about stacking and parking for racers at the national events and they appear to have fixed that.

I hope the current trends continue.

Part of how they fixed the parking/stacking issue is....... There are just way fewer sportsman cars there.

Only 65 stockers and 65 SS.
I remember going to national events where it was "all run" for S/G and S/C...... And there would be about 100 or more of each, plus over 100 stock and SS each.

Now there's a cap on the entries.

Im not saying its good or bad...... Just that there are way fewer sportsman cars at these events now.
At least in Division 1.

If you add up all the entries this year for Stock, SS, S/C, S/G.....it's 242.

I looked at the entries for E town 1998, same 4 classes...... 417 cars.
Just Stock and S/C was 251.

Good news for NHRA, nice track, beautiful setting, I will be there in two weeks for the Dutch Classic running 11.50 index.

I am just going by racer reports who are usually quick to criticize.

At Indy 500 sportsman cars and 398 in the classes you mentioned.

On All Access they reported a weekend attendance record for Maple Grove.

There are just not as many people out there racing. In the late 90's, there would be 120 cars in those classes and more who couldn't get in. Divisonals were always over 100 cars. Now, 60 maybe. Maybe 80 stockers at a D1 meet. Travel and car expense. Economy sucks. Tired of NHRA crap. Racer demo getting older. All play a pert in it.

The ones who still show up are having fun though.

Not only MG, Keystone celebrated their 50th Anniversary to a packed house. A HUGE event! Don't know how many cars, but our Keystone Nostalgia Combo Eliminator had 44, and it was just one of many eliminators. The Scott Rods gassers, Garlits, FC, Slingshots, and so many more. Huge event!

So, yes, the sport is alive and well in PA.

They could have more at many of these events.

The fields for these classes are capped.

For the Reading race, it was 65/65, Stock/SS.

My first national event in Stock was at the 94 Keysone Nats and there were 151 cars because they were running class also, I came in at 130 and was 2nd alternate but didn't get called in, it's the only time ever I didn't make the 128 field. The Nats suck now for the Stockers, The Dutch is the best race by far for the sportsman. Div 1 is still in the 100 range for all the div races but it's fading away little by little.

I remember being at the Dutch several years ago, and supposedly it was the largest field of Stockers ever.
I think it was like 168 cars.
