Didn't have to do a lot to the carb. It is a new 8896-1. Jetted 88 square out of the box. Didn't touch the air bleeds.

Initial pulls were with 34 degrees timing.

Pull to 6000 netted 728hp at 6000, 675 tq at 4900 & 5000.

Went down to 32 on the timing pulled to 6500, 738 at 6000 and 754 hp at 6500, torque peak stayed at 4900 and went to 681.

Plugged the rear power valve and jetted it 86/94. 760 @ 6400, 682 @ 4900 (and 5000).

Went up to 96 (now 86/96) in the rear. 768 @ 6500, 683 @ 5000.

That will be my baseline setting.

Converter is a 8" PTC that flashed to 5200 behind the old combo (550ish hp), so it should work pretty good with this one as well.

Well, pretty much gravitating away from street car status with this one. Although it may see time at the local cruises. May still cork it up and take it up to the Cannery on Friday night at MATS.

Here's the brains behing the project. I have to say a big thank you to Brian and his dad. Brian spent a lot of time on the phone with me fielding my questions, concerns, and "idea's". At least re-using my cam with 1.7 rockers looks like it was a good one.

I'm very pleased with the results. Thanks Brian and Fred.

Nice Numbers, your getting me encuraged to finish the engine. Not much to do on mine, just pull the heads back off, dissasemble, grind more pushrod clearance, reassemble with different retainer locks and bolt the top end back together.
Would have been done, but been at the Hospital almost every weekend for the last month. Started with the delivery of my third grandchild, then I had the flu, then my daughter broke her foot, and then my wife had a bleeding ulcer.....

Anyhow, what spring pressures are you running on that engine?

240 lbs seat, 645 lbs open.

Those are good numbers. If the Victor heads are as tall as Indy heads, you are going to run into a hood clearance issue with that spacer on top of that intake. I know my vent tubes are burried into my scoop with SR heads, a 440-2 intake, 1 inch adapter and Dominator. Good luck with it. How much does your car weigh?

I would use these heads again in a heartbeat over Indy's stuff. This build is really impressive when you consider the 2" shelf header, OOTB carb, mild intake work and mild camshaft.

Oh, and we used .013 lash on the cam. It liked 32° total best. The spacer netted us an avg. of 6hp and 6tq across the entire rpm range we tested from 4000-6500! But Glenn's not using it, as hood clearance is an issue.
800HP is very do-able with these heads and "regular" porting. There is more in the ports but seeing as this was to be a lower rpm engine than I normally do, I felt the porting would work best in the rpm range Glenn would run.

Now if edelbrock will clearance the heads better...

So any idea's what you guys think the car should run?? Trans brake, 2 step, 4.30 gear with 30" tire, 4-link, and about 3600lbs....
I think wide open it would go 9.60's in 1500d.a.
Maybe 9.70's....????????

I had to clearance the valve cover's rail around the rockers. But it didn't take too long to do.
I really like "clearance" in an engine, so I'm anal about things being too close.

the Moroso slide rule shows 9.56 @ 140.2 for 775hp and 3650lbs.


to put it in persepctive, my buddies 3850lb 68 Charger made around 750hp on our dyno.
car has run 9.71 @ 139.5.

Moroso slide rule shows 778hp for the 9.71 ET, and 802hp for the 139.5 speed.

if the HP numbers are real, and the car is fairly well sorted out, and you're not running in crap air, the Moroso slide rule is generally pretty close.

I did some measuring, with the raised port heads, which add an inch of height, plus the taller super victor manifold, the carb flange is 7 1/2" from the valley tray.
The victor 440 on the rpm heads (prior combo) was 6 1/8" tall.

I tried a dominator on a 2" adapter before, so that put that setup at 8 1/8" overall height and the carb was about even with the hoodline. The wilson spacer is actually 1.5" tall, so it would put the carb about an inch higher (9" total height).

With a weight loss regimen, both for me and the car, total weight should be around 3600. Maybe 3575 by summer.

If you're worried about carb height you can put a Mopar 337 intake on there with a 4150 to 4500 open adapter. That combo made a little more power than the Super Victor on my 505. The 337 intake is quite a bit shorter than the Super Victor.
