Bought a rebuilt 5.7 long block from a local engine builder for my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500,got it all installed, primed the engine and discovered oil running out of the MDS holes which were not supposed to be there. trucks not wired for them, question is can I just install the block off plugs or do I have to change out the non MDS tappet set as well. Thanks in advance for any input, teaching an old dog new tricks here 86 Daytona - 612/ glide - 2400lbs - 8.60 alot more left 71 S/G Challenger - 469/glide - 2800lbs - 9.20s and tuning 70 Challenger - mild 440/727 - 3475lbs - 10.96 best 70 GTX - future quick 16? more $$$$$$

So this may be a dumb question, what if I install solenoids just to plug holes and not functional since the trucks not wired for them, would that work? weighing out my options here. Thanks GGC for your response, I really appreciate it! Yes that will work. I would ask the engine builder which lifters the engine has in it. I would bet it does have MDS lifters in it. If it does have the MDS lifters in it I would put four solenoids in the holes and be done with it. It's the fastest way to get it running. If it happens to have non-MDS lifters in the engine then it's as simple and MDS plugs... SuperBeast An enforcer for the Mopar Mafia!

webemopes enthusiast Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 268 South Central Pa	I too am new to gen 3 hemis my problem may be coming from somethimg in these posts had to replace an engine in our 04 Durango non mds reman engine shows up and doesn't have mds plugs or solonoids so order up 4 plugs and put them in as I was told that is only difference between non mds ormds engines 5 months later hasn't made it out of my garage yet when you first start it it seems to idle decent but after about 30 seconds or so sounds like it has a couple weak cylinders and no power revs slow and sounds like a 4 or 6 cylinder shut it off let it set a couple minsutes start it and the same scenario replaced practically every sensor fuel pump plugs twice one coil pack acts like lifters pump up and let it drop cylinders would this act that way from putting just the mds plugs in instead of the dead solonoids

I know they take different yokes as well. It's possible the machining at the top of the lifters, where they engage the yokes, is different. L4staero member L Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 146 Australia	I started pulling down my motor today. Further to that as above I noted non mds clips have the plunger held in with a hex shaped wire clip. The MDS lifter plunger is held in with a circlip NON MDS wire clip MDS Circlip

We took the plugs out of the 06 motor and put into the 04 then plugged up the MDS system up hoping it will think its still a MDS motor but the trucks shakes really bad at 50ish until I put it in trailer mode. What can I do to stop this bad shake?
