Has anyone run into a situation where their power steering box and power steering pump call for different fluids?

From what I understand, Borgeson only calls for power steering fluid in their boxes. Alternatively, my GM-type power steering pump only wants ATF.

I am up to 200 miles on my car and have only run RedLine P/S fluid in it and cannot seem to get rid of the pump whine. I am thinking I will try swapping over to ATF and see how that goes...what have you used?

ATF in mine.
Now my Borg box leaked like a sieve the moment I started the engine, but was due to a pinhole in a weld.
A few strikes with a punch fixed that.

Ok, there's one Borg box with ATF in it that's lived. Good news!

Bump, anyone else using ATF in a Borgeson box?

Thanks!

Either way is fine, but synthetic PS fluid is best. If you have a hydroboost, atf is poison.

In general, older style PS pumps which ran ATF as original seem to do fine on power steering fluid. I would not worry about the pump with either.

Why is ATF poison to Hydroboost setups? Dodge diesel 4x4 trucks use ATF+4 in their power steering systems.

The bus yard I work @ has 30 small busses- Fords and GMs over a span of 30 model years, they all have Hydroboost and all use ATF- factory fill.
