The trans hasn't been acting up at all....while I slowed down for a light, the motor just revved up like nobody home. I manually tried shifting it and 1st would work....so I got home & didn't drive it for awhile.

Got it in my shop trying to do the cheap way out and dropped the pan.

Didn't look bad at all....changed filter, blew out the trans lines going to the radiator. To make sure that one way valve wasn't plugged and it wasn't.

While I was in there I found that the accumulator spring was broke(didn't think that that was the problem), but changed it anyways...had one in another trans.

I've noticed after all of the above and back driving it that if I can get it in to second gear it'll shift just fine all they way to OD without slipping in any gear....just getting it out of first seems to be the deal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Lee

The RE series of trans, which is 96 and newer, has issues with the electronics on the valve body. Lots of issues on the 44, 46 and 48 versions in the bigger trucks. There are updated replacement parts, check out the diesel forums. And since you said its a 500, I'm assuming its behind a 3.9 V-6? The 5.2 [44re maybe] & 5.9 used the 46, if you have a 4.7 or the v6 version 3.7, you have a totally different trans.

Ok, it does have a spring on it I noticed when I was under it. Like I said the trans isn't slipping like I first had thought....once I get in second it shifts fine.

When I say....get to go in....I got to floor it and then let out and it might go or not go, but once it does it shifts like it supposed too.

Thanks....again.

Even with the spring installed the cable/linkage can bind up and cause delayed shifting. Disconnect the lever and be sure the lever goes full forward then drive gently to see if the 1-2 shift delay is still there.
