I am considering replacing my torsion cross member as it has rotted out the 6 inches closest to the pass rocker.

Also if I stick my fingers through the various holes it feels real thick in places like when scale builds and expands.

I saw a magazine where they replaced the member and it looks like without replacing the floor there are some tabs that go over the rocker, under the floor pan that would be inacessable.

There is also a tab at the bottom that is folder upwards on each end that will be inaccessible to weld with out cutting through the floor.

Anyone have a trick to do it? Don't worry about it?

It will be getting the US cartool frame connectors so that will reinforce it quite a bit.

it can be done
you just have to drill out and pry up the floor around in the area
where the x member lays.
i've seen it done a few times
i plan to do it on a car i have in the future.

Even if you cut small access ports just where the tabs are in the floor pan the crossmember is wider then the space between rockers. The only way of getting by this I see is either cut the tabs off and push it up in place from below.

Or possibly bend tabs of new crossmember up vertically, push member up from below, hammer tabs down over rocker.

I do kind of like the thought that at least if you cut the access ports right over the flange of the crossmember you can stitch them shut instead of trying to butt weld.

I have a set of 71 Satellite Cartool connectors for you if you're interested, i'm in Northeast Ohio and can meet you half-way if you want.

Decided to use the same connector we have on the 70 Charger, not so much welding.

PM me or call 440- three seven six-
09 seven eight

Joe

Or ship as I see you are near Philly
