Since that race I`ve talked to several people about the carb, jets, bleeds pressure etc. So, what`s the PROPER way to set it? One guy says to disconnect one fuel line from the bowl, put it in a jug and fire up the pump and set it that way. Is this correct? Thankxx........

That`s the way I`ve always done it but an "EXPERT" said to relieve one line THEN flow it(not running)and that gives the most accurate volume amount.

I was taught to bring up the pressure untill it blows the needles off the seats and then back it down a 1/4 PSI. Once this is done then do a flow test....Phill

I wish you would try some ET street radails on that dart of yours....You might be pleased with the results....Phill

Your doing it right... Do you have a gauge you can monitor going down the track? That is even better yet.

I have done a test, like your friend is suggesting, to see if the pump is providing enough volume but that is differet than pressure.

This might sound stupid Phil but, I don`t like the look of a radial on a car and like the "old school" slick look #1. and,#2. I hear that they`re a hit and miss tire as far as traction is concerned. So, how much time should it take to fill a gal. jug in 9-10 seconds? I do have a gauge(small)on the ft cowl vent but didn`t get a look to see where my pressure was. Stupid me.

this is how i set mine also.i think alot of racers think fuel delivery issues.i went from holley blue pump to the big aero pump. didnt even change et at all or mph, that was a 500.00 waste.my car went 9.00 flat@158 with blue pump.i had fuel gauge inside car,to read.held pressure all the way.if you can borrow better pump,id go that direction 1st.i dont think its fuel issue.

I also like the old school look, but I liked picking up .400 on ET much better, from the slicks to the radails..9.50's sounds better then old school looks to me! I would launch and hit it with 200hp nos off the line and hook every time. Only if the track was real bad, and I mean real bad or late in the season with dew, would I have any problems. If you get a chance try them...Phill

I set mine to 7 psi at Idle and monitor it during a pass to see if it holds. I had a Holley black pump in the car and the needle did move a little while going down the track. I put in a Magnafuel 500 pump ans saw zero change in ET or mph. The needle does not move anymore...

Thankxx guys.......I might try some radials in the future but the starting lines not the problem as you can see/hear it`s going down the track. I talked to Chris at Continental Converters and asked him to view the vid and tell me if he sees or hears anything that could be vert related and I`m going to confirm my flash stall and go from there. I`m also going to set my fuel pressure as high as it will go w/out blowing the needle and seat off and go from there. Might even try shifting at 7000 since the higher I shift, the faster it goes. My suspension is the cal-tracs set up w/5-way ranchos w/out a break since I still have stock caps on my 8 3/4.

Where do you set your carb float levels? I usually run the see thru plugs on my bowls so I can set the fuel level half way up the sight plug. One other thing to remember!!! don't go crazy and make a bunch of changes at the same time. The car runs great and you are just fine tuning to find that little extra.

I have the plastic see through plugs also and set em at the bottom not the middle like yourself as I was told to do by many. I try to only make one change at a time unless I know I`m only going to get a few runs in. Thankxx.........

9.50's changing to a radail
Now Phil don't get his hopes up from just a tire change

If they would improve that much, I`d be ordering me a set today although I have heard of 1-3 tenths improvements.

Iam guessing that the 1-3 improvement would be from less rolling resistance of the radial, but he is hitting it hard leaving and doesnt have a 200 shot then comes into play after leaving, then again iam sure a 200 shot would give him a 9.50 or better.

Just for giggles I decided to crank up the fuel pressure as much as it would go until it sputtered or missed but it didn`t so I stopped at 9 psi. and left it. Per Continental Converters instructions I took my car out and at 2000 rpm`s in 3rd gear I mashed the gas and it flashed to around 4000-4500 then blew the tires off. Is there another way to check a vert other than the rpm`s mph math deal? Thankxx..

Anythings possible I guess........This may be something I look into now, if I can only get one of my friends to spray carb cleaner around the intake at 132+mph.

That rascal is either to fat or running out of fuel in high gear above 5000 rpm

A buddy of mine said I could have a aeromotive 1000 pump and was curious if I could deadhead it for now at the track just to see if my deal is fuel related. He said he did for a couple years race only......how bout any of you?

thats a lot of pump to be dead headed, I wouldn't do it.

THATS A GOOD IDEA,TRY THE PUMP,I DONT THINK ITS A FUEL PROBLEM.HOW FAR APART WERE YOUR PASSES,HOW MANY CARS WENT DOWN THE TRACK BEFORE YOU?JUST WONDERING IF YOUR 1ST PASS WAS WITH FRESH VHT,AND PASSES LATER WERE JUST WITH THE RUBBER ON TRACK? PLUS WHAT ABOUT WEATHER CONDITIONS,HOW MUCH DID THE DA CHANGE?

It is lazy in high gear, the safe way to make sure is to increase the jet sizes one or two sizes on the Holleys and if the car slows down you know you have enough fuel delivery to slow the car down. Once that test is done then try one or two sizes smaller than what it had before jetting it up and see if the MPH goes up, if it does then jet it down some more, a little at a time until it starts to lose MPH

Cab, when I was at Irwindale we richened the hi-speed bleeds and the car picked up and ran back-to-back 6.22`s at 109+mph w/ 1.36 60 ft`s. So, I have not been able to fatten it up to slow it down yet so who knows but, I was able to fatten it up on the chassis dyno enuff to loose 30hp.

The chassis dyno is not the track, no air being forced into the scoop time for more testing, come to the MATS race and test, test, test and test some more
