I have a lead on a G 440 HP block, the seller sent me the casting & stamping #s,casting #s 2536430-8 11/6/1969,stamped #s G 440 russ 1216 HP vin# 1L192516.I know the block part# is correct but is the casting date to early for 71,"russ" I have know idea 1216 I think is the EAD.He also said that this block was used for a 4.25 stroke crank & the block is notched for rod bolt clearance, using either .040 or he's not sure .060 400 pistons which would put the bore @ either 4.39 or 4.41.I think this could still be a good useable block if the price if right. The price is right he just said I could have it for free.

the is NO "L" plant designation based on the December assembly date, the 192516 sequence number would fall into January production at " D" Belvedere assembly (c-body COP-CAR??) or " R" Windsor assembly (Road Runner??) at St. Louis or Newark it would've been used in March at Lynch Rd. it would've been used in June

Most all the 70 and 71 440's that I've have were cast in 69. Had a numbers 71 GTX with a 69 casting. I sold a G440 HP 2 motor several years ago that was cast 4 26 71. Had 6 pack rods, steel crank, 346 heads. I do not recall the exact assembly date, but it was sometime in May of 71. I currently have a '70 440 motor cast in May of '69 that was not assembled until October 31 1969. I'm guessing they probably cast 440's in batches and used the stockpile over multiple model years, then cast another batch when needed. By '70-74, the annual sales of the big motors was probably shrinking, so a casting run probably lasted awhile.
