It's not a 340/416 but I am running a 650 MD on my mild 383 and LOVE IT! I bought mine from Don at FBO and only had to tune it once per his instructions. It does not stumble, stall, or anything like that...it just goes. Runs a wee bit on the rich side, but does not burn the eyes and I would rather be rich than lean.
It has no choke so on cold start up you have to feather it for about 30-40 seconds or so...no big deal really i don't like driving it unless she's warmed up anyways.
A lot of percieved carb issues are actually timing related...
Demon has had som QC issues, but Don pulls it apart and inspects it and jets it to you cam and engine size. I went with the 650 for the throttle response it is pretty snappy. I could probably use a 750 for better top end, but this car is mostly street driven.

I was recomended to go 650 from Don and I'm glad I did. Just a blip and the car has really nice throttle reponse and can annilate the tires if I wanted to. I have heard and read alot of bad stuff about Demons, but honestly I have not had any major problems. Most problems i have seem are usually timing and too BIG a carb.

I had enough with Demons and the issues. i run the Street Avenger 870VS on the street 4" stroke engines I do. the 650 Demon is a wet flow rating, so it doesnt flow 720cfm, but 650 with fuel in the bowl, as opposed to the old Holley and Edelbrock dry cfm, where a 650 4150 Holley really will flow about 610cfm with fuel in the bowls. The Avenger Holleys are wet flowed too, and the 4" stroke engines like larger carbs.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

Are you having a problem with one? Or is this just a carb you are considering?
For that motor it could be debated whether the 650 mighty or the 750 mighty is the better choice.
A 750 mighty would work fine, and the 650 will too. Difference would probably be a couple of mph on the top end. Nothing you would feel in your pants.
If you do have one(or get one), following the FBO tuning guide is a really good idea.
