I'm driving back with the roof in the back of the trailer right now. I basically have the top of the car in one piece.

What you are doing is like an organ donation.

Yep. I can't let good parts go to waste when my car needs them.

I drove to New Orleans from Houston last Friday. Got up early Saturday and got to work.

The car was a total loss in Hurricane Katrina. Was flooded up to the doors for a while. There was nothing left on the lower 8 inches of the car. Frame was gone. It had also been picked apart over the years.

Literally all that was left was the roof.

We started by cutting back the quarters, and cutting out the deck filler panel because it was no longer solid. I really needed the c pillars down to the body line and as much of the front and rear glass surrounds as possible.

This is what was left after we cut the roof back.

And then the complete roof section on the trailer.

I took some of the emblems and the side scoops to donate to another member here, but now the car has been scrapped. Nothing is left except for what I have.

Next thing up is for me to strip the roof down, drill the spot welds and release the lead bond.

I'll then use the C pillars and windshield surrounds as patch panels for my car and refit the glass around those a few times til it fits right.

I need to buy the rear corner window patch panels and a new rear window frame lower lip.

Who wants to come over and help me weld?

So I've not completely forgotten about the car.

I've started drilling spot welds on the donor car and I bought a welder. Once the donor roof is prepped, I'll pull the glass and start the process of cutting the old roof off.

I bought a Miller 211 MIG should do this projects and a few others with relative ease. I couldn't justify a small 110v when there are others things I need to fix.

I think you will really like that welder. I bought the same model for the versatility and the modern technology in the design. It is actually lighter than the strictly 110 V version. Have only used the 110V option as that is all we have unless we add another inverter to the house but so far it has been great. I have played around with some pieces of body thickness metal and no problem there. Also used it to repair a worn out hole on the clutch pedal pin on my wife's 67 Land Rover, which is very similar to frame rail thickness. Worked great there too. You might find using it on 110V will be better for the body work. Also used it to weld up a trellis from #3 rebar for our passion fruit plants to climb. Michelle did a lot of the welding there, she enjoyed it. Her first time welding.

Then again I am only just learning myself so as far as any advice from me goes and reliability of that advice......... smoke
