Was scanning an original Color and Trim book when I came across this insert that showed the factory totals for each color and some popular options for the 1972 model year. Pretty easy to do some basic math and know how many of each color were built. Here's a link to the documents (the full book can be downloaded from the E-Bodies.org Resource Library):

From those documents we can figure out that there was 775 TX9 (Black) Barracudas in 1972. Compared to 2,232 TB3 (Basin Street Blue). One of the rarest factory colors would be HT6 (Mojave Tan Met) at 166 barracudas.

That is really cool. I wish they had something like that for 1971! If they do, I haven't seen it.

Some comments:

1. How do we know whether the percentages should be applied to total production or US production (as is the general rule for option breakdowns)? Your calculations could be incorrect.

2. The percentages are likely based on aggregate production, so it would not be possible to apply a percentage to 'Cudas – it must be applied to all Barracudas. You didn't imply such, but I'm just pointing this out.
