So does anyone have conclusive proof, not from someones uncle that remembers, that they came with chrome valve covers

are there any road tests or dealership pictures or list of what items the 383 package included?

the parts book isnt conclusive and sorta confusing due to the lack of the HP b-body left valve cover NOT being listed

the page from the data book doesnt mention chrome valve covers and neither does the window sticker

I had a 69 Barracuda 383 4 speed all original number matching original belts and hose it had chrome valve covers on it sorry no pictures 1986

big block Dave runs M code registry.
He also has a 69 383 Barracuda that has 13,000 miles on it, numbers matching original paint car and like 8 others.

What were the chrome valve covers held on with? Chrome or natural fasteners.

I cant add anything regarding the valve covers, but why does the brochure mention 'black crackle finish air cleaner' and '"383 Super Commando" decal atop carburetor air cleaner' yet show the ribbed air cleaner.

The ribbed air cleaner is also wrinkle finish. Dodges never got the super commando name, that was Plymouth only.

The picture of my Dart above has the original valve covers on it. I have had 9 1969 survivor 383 Darts and 2 Barracudas all with chrome valve covers. The picture with the 17" unsilenced air cleaner is from a 67 or early 68.

They look like the chrome valve covers that came on 67 GTX and RT's.

67's were slightly different. Here is a picture of mine I took this morning, hopefully it will be re-restored again one day...

1967 GTX and R/T valve covers are different than A body chrome valve covers. They look similar.

I know this is an old, old, thread, but.... There were a number of posts that referenced that the '69 383 Dart covers were similar to the '67 GTX but never elaborated on the differences. What are the differences between the '67 covers and the '69 covers?

Dads 1967 Chrysler New Yorker had the chrome covers, I guess the same as the GTX. These are 68 Dart

Those are not 67-68 covers, they are 69. 67-68 covers had a chrome tab on the passenger side that held the clip around the heater hoses. In 1969 that was deleted as the hoses were longer and held on by a clip that screwed to the inner fender.

These are 67-68 covers, see the bracket welded to the top of the passenger cover? And this is the clip that is used...

Yep it came to me after I posted, I remembered the clip. Trying to remember what engine I had that they came off of, maybe the 69 RR, been a long time. lol

Thanks guys! I thought I had caught a fat hog in the butt as I have access to a pair of '67 chrome covers. But alas, another part I'll start walking the face of the earth for.

Well, I have a set of the 67-68 chrome covers. They are not mint but might work for a driver or someone on limited budget.

I have a few sets of 69's but they went through my garage fire and are coated in rubber from burning tires. I have not found anything yet that can remove that crap. I even tried adhesive remover and a 3M stripe off wheel and it doesn't do much. I am surprised there is not some kind of chemical that can remove that stuff easily...

Is the chrome still good on the covers? If the chrome looks presentable I'd be willing to give it a shot if you'd want to sell a pair.

The chrome was good when they were hanging on the wall, haven't seen the chrome since then! I tried cleaning one up right after the fire in 2013 and didn't want to hurt it so I just put them away...

Is there any physical difference between painted covers and chrome ones for a given application?

If they are identical except for the chrome and it has to be correct AND shiny, the maybe not cheap solution for an unobtainium cover is a plating shop.

Also...what about the fasteners? My 68 has what appeared to be bare coated hardware (anchor) on the valve covers. I don't think there were any studs although I could be remembering incorrectly.

My father had a 1967 fomula S fastback silver barracuda, and it didn't have chrome valve covers, i know my dad went on vacation and i took it to the drag-strip,....i went #5 round and it started to rain, !@#$%^ in the money !
