I know the 318 isn't regarded as a performance engine, but that's what I've got lying around right now. I also have a set of closed chamber w2 heads with 2.02 valves. The chambers are 57cc and the ports are stock. I have all the valvetrain, and the intake manifold. With thin head gaskets it should be about 9.7-1. My question is, what is a good cam for this in a 2800 lb Dart bracket car with 4.10 gears and a 3000 stall converter?

Set the heads on the block with a set of checking springs and push them open all the way to make sure the valves don't hit the block before going forward twocents scope thumbs
As far as the cam I would look at the duration at .050 between 240 and 250 degrees and have it ground on a 103 to 106 LSA and install it 3 to 6 degrees advanced on the intake lobe timing twocents
your going to need to rev the motor up due to the lack of torque with that stroke and bore size shruggy You might need a looser converter to get it to 60 ft. the best work

Cam is my motor is only 231@ 50.
Gonna need some converter to make it run.
I shift at 6200, trap at 6 to keep it street friendly. Know it would like more gear.

I knew it would need rpms and be low on torque but wasn't sure what to do to keep it usable. I have 2 cams, a way too big .590 Mopar cam, and a too small crane energizer. So I'm thinking, sell them both and get something usable. I'm just looking to make it work until I get my turbo car done. Thank you.

Before the 340 came out the performance small block was a 273. The 318 is just a larger bore version of the 273. Prior to the 273, the HP small block was a 318 poly-head with 1 or 2 4bbl carbs. As long as the car isn't heavy you can get good performance out of your 318. Just don't go throwing a ton of money at it.

This is totally low buck. It's just a way to have a little fun while I'm working on my other car. It's a low mile stock bottom end, so I don't want to turn it too hard, i don't care about the engine but I do care about the heads. Since I got the heads, rockers, pushrods, intake, and .590 cam for less than $500, i wouldn't be out much if it exploded.

I would put a st-21 Racer Brown cam in it. 254* at .050 and .520" lift. I had a 8 to 1 318 years ago with that cam and very lightly ported 360 smog heads. Strip dominator and a 750 DP. 8" TQ conv and 4.88 with 31X13 tires. Went 11.60s in good air. I had to deepen the intake valve pockets in the $80 silvolite pistons. Did it with assembled engine with a die grinder and a good shop vac. Put a season and a half on it and sold it for more than I had in it. Plus if it did blow up I would have had a good laugh, and would not have been remotely disappointed.
