Pretty neat service training for the Factory Technicians. Book 72-1 is only 16 pages, but covers a bunch of details on how to tune it. Here's the PDF that you can print and keep in your shop.

On the moderate build 440 in my Power Ram I had, The TQ that I had modded always made more power than I ever got out of the engine with a Edel 750... Too bad the TQ cracked and started to leak, made good power and had crisp throttle response.

I run the 9800 series here with the electric choke on the side of the carb...I love it...and so tunable...although yeah, requires some patience, trying a few things and spare parts sure help a LOT!

I'd like to have an original hard copy of this.

Sorry for the crappy pictures. The carbs work fantastic on a tunnel ram.

No problem on the pics they show nothing but pure awesomeness. I feel like this is one of those automotive wonders of the world that few can accomplish, like power shifting an Inland shifter. Color me impressed!

These are mechanical secondary correct? Similar layout to an AVS?

It's been 10 or 15 years since I was in one.

The butterfly's are mechanical, they use a secondary air door above the throttle plates. It's the next evolutionary step after the AVS.Dave

IMHO the single reason why people give up on it for street use: the tuning is very similar to anything else with a primary metering rod and vacuum secondary (AFB, AVS, QJ etc.) except that the secondary air valve is also linked to the choke mechanism. Just follow the manual and you'll be fine.

I haven't done any (Drag Strip) racing with the TQ. Just weekends in the back alley ways.
You can use "bailing wire" as described in the MP books to wire the secondary side to allways work. Choke or not.

This takes knowing the engine/car really well to get it to go and use the carb to it's max. I had mine coupled to a MP modified LD-340 on top of a 360.
It makes wonderfully scary sounds!

The Thermoquad can be a bit finicky on the tune-up. On the first pull on the Dyno the motor was a bit down on power. I looked at the data and it was a bit lean. I closed up the secondary air doors .050 and made another pull. It picked up 60hp so I closed them another .050 and lost 60 hp.

Whoa! 60hp is a bunch. Did the afr fall off a bunch with the last .050?
