In the staging lanes at KID with the other index winners.

Lucrative weekend!

I won $300 on Saturday for being first in the '64 and earlier class on true street radials. I won $50 Sunday for winning the 11.50 index class and actually went another 2 rounds before going out. Car worked great, it was the bonehead driver that cut a horrible light and broke out.

New best 1.54 60 ft. to boot!

Since narrowing and installing the truck Dana 60 (no pinion snubber), I've had problems with excessive spring wrap and the rear u-joint hitting the driveshaft tunnel. Hard to believe because of the separation that occurs, but it's pretty bad in 1st gear and about halfway through 2nd.

Anyway, I decided to do something like a Cal-Trac bar. Fortunately for me, a neighbor is really great at fabrication (neighbor Dave!) and we were able to use a Cal-Trac setup as a template while adding a few of our own unique touches.

Painted the bars and reinstalled. Looking forward to testing them out Saturday night!

A friend commented that it kinda killed the sleeper vibe, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice. grin Besides, they are a bolt-on modification that can easily be reversed.

I think it looks great! May I ask about your wheels? Did you have a set widened? Just curious about how you are using steelies that wide with the larger dog dish caps. Great thread! Like I said, I'm stealing some ideas and am doing a similar build on my 65. Trying to go as fast as possible without needing a roll bar on street tires, full exhaust, etc. up

The fronts are A100 15x4's rear are 15x8 Wheel Vintiques. The rim and openings are identical on both wheels. I simply epoxied a smaller Chrysler dog dish cap inside two larger, earlier caps for the rear! I used PC-7 epoxy.

I raced at KID this weekend to test out the Cal-Trac style rear suspension. The first run it porpoised BADLY! Hooked, unloaded, hooked and unloaded in rapid succession.

I had read about this happening with others that had tried these with the Mopar SS springs in A body Darts so I wasn't surprised. It was VIOLENT though and hurt my neck! LOL!

It seems the cure for this is double adjustable rear shocks and slowing (firming up) the extension. Kinda spendy for double adjustables and I may wait until spring to bite the bullet. We temporarily fixed the issue by clamping the rear spring segments together with a pair of extra clamps I made.

Overall, though, the car runs like clockwork. Expected 11.30's due to the unseasonably warm heat and DA (3500) and that's right where it ran. 11.30 best at 120mph with 1.63 60 ft. times.

The best part was I had to use the 330 as my daily driver for 3 days last week while the Cummins had its A/C fixed. It never missed a beat!

We WILL figure it out! wrench

Well, the racing season is over. I'm pretty happy with the results from this engine. It has well over 3,000 miles on it this Summer and LOTS of dragstrip passes. Really the only things I've done is adjust the valves once and swap the intake. It stays bone dry and gets decent mileage to boot!

I pared it down from a brand new build 11.76 @ 117mph beginning of the season to 11.19 @ 121 mph best leaving some 60 ft. on the table and it still gets driven all over! People comment at the track that they see it in traffic all the time and get a kick out of it being driven, LOL! I constantly have people come up to me and ask what it is because they've never seen one and the badging isn't on the car yet. Usually it's in the staging lanes just before I turn into the burnout box!

The best part has been seeing the gleam in the old timers eyes that used to own/run cars like this. There is always a crowd around it and guys asking questions at the nostalgia events we run.

I put this off as long as I could because I wanted the car to look as "stock" as possible and it is, after all, a street car.

I made an appointment with Holzman race cars a few months ago to do a 6 pt. rollbar. They finished on Friday and I was able to snap a few pics Saturday. I pick it up on Monday and I'm really happy with the work as they did all the little things I asked for and then some!

They ran the bars through the rear package tray so I can keep the back seat, angled the main hoop to match the B pillar perfectly and routed the side bars around the arm rests and door panels.

Another view:

Struggling with paint selection. Black or the same color red as the dash and steering wheel..

I look forward to installing cam lock RJS 5 pt. belts as all I had were lap belts in this thing! runaway

I had a couple of minutes to myself this morning so I managed to get the drivers door bar painted.
