Is that the maximum window width of the bulkhead, or just of the existing radiator? More width is the most efficient way to get more cooling (better than thickness).

I've had 2 brass radiators built by US Radiator. They look stock, and both use shrouds and factory thermal fans. I did use Spal's twin fan set-up with shroud and Controller on the 26" radiator successfully for 6+years, but swapped it back to the factory style thermal fan set-up. It wasn't cheap, but you better have a good electrical system & feed to supply it with over 40 amps on start up.
The quality and cooling performance is top notch. One car uses the 22" opening and cools 510 hp and an auto trans. The other cools a 700+hp motor with a 26" opening and a 5 speed. Both have A/C condensers in front of them.
Give them a call, and explain what you have. They will tell you if they are able to build a radiator for you that works in a 22" opening. I'm sure a lot depends on the fan system you will be able to use.
Are you going to be able to run a shroud and factory clutch fan? If not, you will have to use very high quality electric fan/fans with an upgraded electrical feed to them. The factory style clutch/thermal fans with a shroud move a lot of air reliably.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)
