I'm replacing the rubber isolater in my 65 New Yorker with a u joint. I remember seeing a chart somewhere that told the size/ spline count of different cars. Anyone have a link to that chart or know for a fact what u- joint will work on this car? Thanks

Not sure if "Borgeson" does but iirc they have a good rep (& may have a chart).

As far as I can tell both power and manual steering had 36 splines with a master spline for alignment. The manual box was a bigger diameter at 3/4" compared to the 5/8" for the power. Here is the Flaming River chart.

Thanks. I need to get the size and spline count where the steering shaft comes through the firewall. This is probably where the u- joint will need to be.

Looks like I'm gonna have to get the whole shaft. I got the measurements on the box end and the length is 9 inches. Best I can tell the column end is .730 diameter with 34 splines not counting the master spline. Can anybody back up this measurement? I'm not that great at counting splines...

.750 is 3/4", so a .730 measurement is probably not far out of line.

Take a magic marker and mark the high point on one spline, or there should be a place where one tooth is missing, you can start your count from that missing tooth. Take a small straight blade screwdriver to put in the groove and count 1 at a time until you get back to your mark. You should come up with a 36 tooth count, adding in the missing tooth, I believe.

You can get Borgeson (and probably Flaming River) u joints with different ends, and you can but lengths of shafts (you cut to length) and couplers to complete the job. Gene

I used the Flaming river coupler because an OEM one would hit my headers. Flaming River is very nice quality and fit but pretty pricey.
