My 440 is out for freshening (Blew a head gasket) and the engine compartment is finally getting freshened up too. So I just got off the phone with my engine guy. (Sorry, I'll remove, install and do other smaller engine type repairs, but I'm not going over an entire engine myself. ) He says he isn't really happy with my current 906 heads and is throwing out the suggection of the new 440 Source Stealth aluminum cylinder heads. I have actually considered these before he made the suggestion. I like the fact that they look like a stock head and my fata$$ Road Runner could stand to lose a couple of pounds. That being said, does anyone have any REAL WORLD experience with these heads??? He says, since I should have a valve job done and if I want him to go further with porting (there was nearly nothing done to them) I should just spend the coin on these heads instead. Looking for some advice I guess.

We just put a motor together for my wife's fury using the 440 source heads.
Brian (ou128/IMM) did a little work to them and did valve job.
Motor is a mild 426 ci, 9.6 cr, 231/237 .525 cam (comp XE275HL).
Made 470hp and 505 tq with a 950hp carb.
Here is a video of a dyno pull on it.

Thanks for the link wedgomatic. Looks like I've got some reading to do. I'm just at the part about the gasket fitment issues.

No personal experiance but I believe the gasket issue was only a problem with the first run & has been improved, as has the issue with springs, retainers & keepers...

Steve what pistons are in the 440 ?? I only ask because you may not be able to use the 84 cc closed chamber head with pistons that were used with the open chamber 906's. I guess the Stealth heads come in 84 and 88 cc ?? Ron

Ron, he said he would have to cut the pistons if he uses the 440 Source heads. - Steve

I have beat the snott out of a pair last season with roller springs and I cut .075 off the deck to get the commpression up to where the old 915s were. Not a problem all season and gained .2 to .3 in the 1/8 th mile over the old 915s.Nothing done to the motor. Alot of these guys do not own a pair of these heads but seem to show up on everyone of these post. Buy them the let your engine builder decide if you need to machine the pistons.

If the MODS did their job I would not be hitting the notify MOD button. LOL

The set we put on the 426 is from the very first run of those heads. We used the ROL gaskets that 440 source sells.

I hear ya'! Certainly seems like some people have an axe to grind with 440 Source. I tell ya'... It was down right painfull to read some of that old thread even with most of the bad stuff deleted.

If you want the extra "work" done already, you could always buy a set of their CNC heads. Those have already been ported and gone through by the guys at modern cylinder head.

LOL, I was going to buy a set of stealths, but for a little more $$, $1100 to be exact, I bought a different set of chinese heads, the pro comp Victor copies from Bob Mazzolini racing. I just ordered the rockers not too long ago too, they require offset intake rockers and I had to order straight from pro comp but they were $280.
So for less than $1500 I have heads that flow around 300cfm and with porting will probably go to 360cfm or so, just fine for my 10 second junk.

The CNC version is very nice. Good for 650 to 700 hp on a 500 inch shortblock.

Mine have been on the 440 for a year.No problesm.I run 12.5 Ross domes.Quite a few street miles and a few strip blasts.I used the Fel Pro marine gaskets with mine. They are lift.the first sets that came out.I did add Comp springs retainers and locks. My cam is solid and .Rocky
