I think any factory part that has lasted 48 years should get a chance to continue on whenever possible. Thanks for the info, still would like to redo these. We'd like to think that, but a 48 cast zinc year old part may not survive the time in a de-chromate tank, and if it does, it still has a few more processes to go in electrolysis plating, a lot of platers won't guarantee your parts integrity, plus the high cost associated with potmetal repair plating may soon have you looking at the repros, I've used both the E and B body latch repros, very nice in shape, finish and function

The latches are a piece of cake to take apart. Just drive out the small pin where the hook is held in place between the legs of the handle & unscrew the hook....done.

A lot of stress on those old latches, I have a few I picked up ( WAY before they were reproduced) that are broken from age and use..
I vote for new ones....

I got a much better original pair I'd part with... thought they were e-body is the only reason I had them.

Both pins look to have a step on them, larger on one side. Are you saying that the pins just knock out? I have an extra piece of the largest part that looks like it had thread marks in the hole where the pin goes. Didn't want to go after it with a hammer and punch and have an OS moment because it was threaded. Yes, I'm saying just knock the pins out. The 3 sets I've had didn't have any shoulders on the pins and none of the sets had any holes threaded. I'm guessing someone put in a nut/bolt at one time on those ones.

Be cautious about repros. I bought a set for my '69 Cuda and the pins soon loosened and came out. Poor quality metal in my opinion. Jim

I did knock the pins out. I had three sets and managed to get a set of good pieces from what was there.
The repops I understand consist of a cast aluminum set and a Taiwan pot metal set. Of the three options, I will take a chance with the American set first. I can always get the cheaper stuff later. Thanks!

Jim I've had the pins come loose on my OEM latches too more times than I can count. FYI- One set I got came out of a c-body ('67 Newport???) and they were identical to my original ones.
