This Challenger hood is on a late build 440+6 with 6-13-70 SPD. Is this hood "assembly line" original or other?

Thanks,
Glenn

Spotwelds look far from OE to me twocents
Older Alhambra Custom one IMHO

Looks like a Harms Challenger hood kit, no others (ever) had the same details. The give away are the spot welds as compared to an original, on the above hood they appear wrong. .02

*Edit, after a closer look I'm not 100% sure about the spot welds looking wrong, however I'd need clearer/closer pics to make a final call. The small welds at the edges are what don't look typical of a factory example. There are also two non factory holes in the 2nd pic of the blue example above, possibly from an older modification that the restorer missed (should have been filled). Maybe the brace was R&R'd by someone doing an older rust repair or similar which would require welding it back on resulting in the non factory looking spot welds.

Just to show how difficult identifying these can be, one of these hoods is a Harms kit conversion, the other is an original. Guess which one is which?

The raw kit (and for anyone unaware, I no longer sell these, it's been many years since).

Here are the differences between a Cuda & Challenger under brace for those of you wondering. No other kit ever sold made a Challenger style with the correct factory details, only the Harms kits had them.

Thanks for the detailed info here. I believe the sloppy seam sealer in the rear triangular areas and the front leading edge is usually not duplicated on non-OEM hoods. This is an additional pic of the challenger with SPD of 6-13

Hard to tell in the pictures but what I always look for is wrinkling on the area that the shaker sticker is. Around that whole area if it's original there will be some wrinkling in places. The reproduction under structures don't have any wrinkling.

You guys are all killing me with these hoods. I have been looking for one for my 70' Challenger. I don't care if it's original, repro or fiberglass. I may have to do some hacking on it so I am not looking for a perfect one. But can't fathom paying how much everyone wants for one. Goodmark & AMD have been on nat'l back order.

HEY Glenn, Scott on those hoods the ring nuts/studs shouldn't be painted like the reference one that was shown correct?

The nuts were supposed to be painted but were not always covered evenly.
Paint flaked off some over the years.
The original nuts for my blue hood are not on in those pictures, but I do have them.
Hard to see, but on this original paint hood some paint can be seen on the nuts

Agreed, here's an example of an original paint Cuda hood with better coverage. On this example the nuts were painted, but some had bare areas on the opposite direction of the paint spray.

That's a great example Scott.
I assume that is the 'cornfield' Hemicuda you were involved with.

Thanks Terry, Scott for the reference photos. If only we could have seen these hoods being produced, I guess at the Hamtramck plant, back in the day!
