And here are some gratuitous shots Brian sent me of the assembled short-block.

Nope, that's Butch's handiwork. I'd have never got them to look that good.

You really have to cut on the head to relive it for 3/8 pushrods and 1.7 rockers. Too bad Edelbrock doesn't step up and machine/cast these with larger holes/enlongated holes

Thanks for the pic of the clearancing. Yea, we all knew that was coming, and Edelbrock should have listened and planned for a machine code or casting update to make more room OOTB, at least for typical 1.6 ratio. That is with your/Comp offset roller lifter to help. What offset is the T&D rocker? I always thought the 440-1 offset rockers and less pushrod hole in the port external wall would have made more sense for a new head.

With these heads, sheet metal valve covers are pretty much a must from what I can tell.
And they will need some minor clearancing as well...

What are typical valve covers hitting?

With the extra CR, flow (356 cfm), and the "short" duration cam (264/268) on the 505 CID; that motor should have lots of grunt off the line.

FYI, this is what the end rocker shaft holddown on my Indy heads looks like. The rounded corner helps with valve cover clearance and matches the rocker stand profile.

This picture shows kind of what I'm talking about.
The rocker body is very low and right next to the VC rail. The hold down is very close as well.

I wasn't able to use my .180 offset lifters, because of these giant head bolt bosses in the block. I would have had to grind alot of clearance for the pushrods and really, the angle is not that bad.

How tall is the super Victor? In some pics it looks shorter than a 440-2 intake, then in others it doesnt. I have been all over the place looking for it. Edelbrocks link to the intake measurements doesnt work.

The Super Victor is basically identical in height to the Indy 440-2 from what I can tell.

I'll be interested to see if you can find a set of valve covers that clear. I think Edelbrock put the valve cover rail in the wrong spot on those heads but maybe I'm looking at it wrong.

Here is a picture of a two piece vally pan that I did for the Victor heads. Nobody sells one of these yet so I made my own.

If your talking about the T&D rockers clearing the valve cover due to the rail being so close, I built a Victor headed BB with the same rockers and used the Indy Cast valve covers and didnt have a problem. At first glance it looks close but it cleared. I checked multiple times and found not a trace of interferance. I didnt have the opportunity to check other valve covers though.

Measured it today. Super victor intake is 6 1/2" tall. For comparison, measured my victor 440 and it is 6 1/8" tall.

The 440-2 is 6.75 tall, then add a 2 inch adapter for dominator. The 440-3 is also 6.75, but supposedly has a funky plenum for a dominator. The 440-3x is huge at 8.40. So, the super victor or the low profile mopar look like the hood clearance issue intakes.

G bob, how did you clearance the pushrod holes on the Victor heads? I had previously did some clearancing with my die grinder, and I thought I was good, but I was not as consistent as I should have been resulting in pushrod clearance issues on a few exhaust pushrod holes.
Anyhow, I got the heads back off the engine and torn apart, and I decided to just use the drill press with a large drill bit to enlarge all the pushrod holes. I ended up using a 21/32" drill bit (0.656") if anyone cares. The results look very simular to the photos you posted.

Glenn didn't do the clearancing, I did. I did it all by hand with my porting grinder.
There is alot of material to come out that's for sure!!
The worst clearance is with the valves closed...when they open, plenty of clearance.

Thats what I found too, clearance was tight with the valve closed. I originally opened up the pushrod holes with the die grinder, but I was more concerned about the side clearance with the offset rocker arms. It looked like clearance would be ok, but marginal when I mocked up the heads and checked the pushrod length, but I was using a 5/16" pushrod checker :hammer
When I installed the 3/8" pushrods, the side clearance was ok, but the in/out clearance (towards the outside ot inner part of the head) was tight.
Anyhow, I should have plenty of clearance now.
