I recently stumbled across an old 2 gauge Chrome panel that had the light in the center and a slot in the back of the gauges for the light to shine in. I have a Stewart Warner water temp gauge that when put in a pan of hot water works. I would like to find a Oil pressure gauge to match this. Does anyone have any of this style of gauges you're no longer using? Maybe would consider selling me an oil pressure gauge to match the water temp? I wanted these for the 65 Coronet AWB car I'm working on...The gauge diameter is 2 1/16"...Thx...

To me, that gauge does not look like it's from the '60s. The word "TEMP" on the gauge is definitely a late '70s-'80s typeface. Never seen that particular style gauge before either.

IMO, SW Deluxe would be more 'period correct' for a '65 AWB Dodge...

SW Deluxe are still made, they're not real expensive. Or find a vintage set on Ebay.

That's not a "vintage" S&W gauge. That's a cheap auto parts store gauge made by S&W

I would think this would be the style you are looking for or maybe the second one tho it might be too new for the time period you're after.

I've never posted anything here till now but have been looking for about a year. I have a set of the 2 1/16" Green lines I can use. Monte your reply would explain why these aren't easily found. I found the matching tach and amp gauge but have never run across an oil pressure...Maybe I'll dig out the cable drive tach and find something that will match it...I think the 1st gauge you posted Kevin is what the tach is...

another giveaway to not being vintage is the temperature "symbol" at the top of the gage face.

Kentucky Colonel altered wheelbase Dodge 'dash'. Looks like a half-sweep Sun tach. Pic is too fuzzy to tell what the oil pressure gauge is but it's probably a similar style Sun.

In 1965, aftermarket gauges were pretty minimal.

When I get back into town, I'll post an image of the Tach I have and see if you want it. I'll give it to you for free.

I'm with you I can't really see what the first tach is. It looks identical to the Mooneye's I have in the Dart... That I evidently don't have a picture of...

All right...I dug through the totes of parts I have put back for my 65 Bel II Project and found the tach and cable. After digging a little further I found a new chrome ECU and a pair of the 440 cable drive electronic ignition distributors that were sold by Direct Connection. That gives me one complete set-up for the 65 Coronet AWB and leaves me needing a tach and an ignition module for the 65 Bel II.

Man I need to dig through that stuff more often...That was fun... Almost like Christmas all over with better gifts...

Other distributor and tags. I never realized the NOS Distributor cap had a rubber ring in the lip...

i have that exact SW tach, and used it with the factory duel point distributor from my one buddies' '60 300F. the setup was on my 68GTX drag car i ran back in the day [73-78 or so]. i still have the complete setup on the shelf awaiting a next use. one thing i discovered running a mechanical tach. the cable core is wound opposite that of a speedometer core. it only took 5 or 6 core replacements in a very short time to discover that. it also was by accident because after those failed attempts, i found a tach cable from an international cabover truck that was only one inch longer than the cable i was previously using. it lasted, so, back to the "cornbinder" junk pile i went, scoring another. i forget what model truck that was, as well as what engine [if any] was used. this same international dealership made up my cores that were continually breaking. much later, for some reason, [i still had a broken core laying around] i glanced at both cores at the same time and discovered the opposing twists. just something you may want to consider if future cables need to be swapped or obtained. don't use an off the shelf speedometer cable. some speedometer cables do come with the "blade type" tip on the one end [for the distributor ? i forget] and the common "square" tip on the other. stupid things a guy [me] learns the hard way in life.

Not to mention that the Chrysler distributor end on a tach cable is the odd .152" tang style tip rather than the uber common Chevy .104" square drive...

I hate to split hairs but you really didn't see mechanical tachs in race cars until the late '60's, early '70s. I'm sure they were out there but when I look through my old mags, I don't really see too many when the AWB cars were around.

SW was kind of late to the game as well. Jones/Motrola had been around for a while but their tachs were seen more in boats and road race cars before they made their way into drag cars. Eventually tach drives became the norm but probably not until '69-'70. Just putting that out there, most people wouldn't care or bat an eye at stuff like that.

Drag racing evolved really quickly in the early years, seems like there was a paradigm shift every other year or so. If you think about it, AWB cars lasted less than two seasons before they gave way to tube chassis floppers.

There's no worry with splitting hairs on this thing...
There is a build thread in the survivors section that sorely needs to be updated if I'd get my butt back to work on it...
It's not something that is mimicking what was done in 65. Its more of a day five build by some hilljack in West Virginia in about 72... (no offense to said hilljacks...)
99% of the general pubic has no clue about these including me...
For me I always thought AWB cars were cool...but I'd never in this world be able to buy one and then enjoy it too...
This is a bunch of parts I've had laying around thrown at a shell of a car that many would have ruled out as a viable build project...
A few locals think its a gasser...
It's more for fun that functionality...

I know I have an old SW tach in the garage somewhere.IIRC I hav an old fuel pressure gauge also.Got both back in like 71 and they were old then.Rocky

I still use the SW 535ah tach today. That and the Chrysler tach drive distributor. If it works..why change it?
