I need to replace the pinion seal on my 8 3/4. I know I'll have to use a puller to get the yoke off. My question is since I believe the yoke was pressed on will I have any issues when I go to re-install? (741 case). Thanks

Yoke is held on with a large nut. Remove it and you should be able to tap the yoke off with a hammer. You will have to reset the preload when you reinstall it.

Thanks. I did pull the 1 1/4" nut and washer off but there was no moving the yoke itself even tapping with a hammer. That's when I saw an article that used a two jaw puller to remove the yoke. My real concern is putting it back together. When I tighten the nut to 240 ft/lbs will that be enough to draw the yoke back onto the pinion splines?

Some yokes slide right off and some need a puller. No need to reset preload on a 741, just torque the nut to spec.

If the yoke doesn't go back on easily, be careful to keep it centered to prevent damaging the seal lip.

I use a brass drift or a piece of wood to drive the old yokes off, tap on one of the corners from the rear and hammer up scope

When you get the yoke off and clean it all up, grease the splines and that yoke will slide on there slicker than a snot wad down a pig's lip.
