Does anyone produce these types of dollies. I want one that will hold my K frame with engine and trans installed?

There has been many recent threads on this and most elect to build one themselves. I have no experience or access to welding equipment so I bought one from Dutch Brothers Fabricators. See web site link http://www.crazyeightlift.com/. The Hurcules Dolly is what I bought and I am very pleased with it...and for $250 it was reasonably priced. It is designed to hold both engine and trans and the bar that secures the power train to the dolly is very cleaver. It also holds the engine and tranny at an angle that allows you to install engine from underneath with as little as 4 to 6 inches at the leaf spring front hangers. Great instructions and customer service also.

Can you explain this or show a picture?

Here's what my friend Dave made for me........ There's probably numerous designs that could be built.

At my house with my Hemi's k-member on it.

Explain: a "v" shaped piece of tubing is bolted to the two lowest holes on the back of the engine/trans mounting surface. The "v" tube section then sits in two raised tube sections that are open on one side (facing each other) that create a "cradle" to hold the engine/trans in place (you can see these at the bottom of the first picture I posted). This allows access to bolt flex plate to torque converter (automatics only). I will try to post a picture later.

Wow, blast from the past with this old thread. smile But since it's been dug up thought I would share what I built. I wanted one that was fully adjustable to fit any engine and trans plus the ability to adjust the height. Several of the dollies I've seen sit to low and you can't get a car down low enough to easily bolt the K member in. I also wanted one that I could take apart for easy storage when not in use. Since I could not find one for sale that met all my needs I designed and built this one.

lol, That's the way I did it for years! smile It works good, but you might need to jack the dollies up a bit to get the K member to bolt in. The dollies are pretty low to the ground. But hard to beat for the money.

You guys with the fancy dollies are going to way too much expense. A couple of moving dollies, some 4X4 and I have more money to buy Hemi parts.

I guess if you have a lot of cars to get through, a nice dolly is worth the bucks, but if only doing a car or two what do you do after you're done with it? Homemade is at least easy to take apart.

I helped my old boss built his deck. He had some deck boards left over and I built a creeper out them, painted it red. It was steel reinforced but with regular creeper wheels on it. I used for years until one day I decided to set my motor and trans on it. It held the weight...barely and was hard to roll. I used it as a test fit.

I used old E body bumper mounts and a spreader bar that I used to pull supercharged engines with the blower on it to lift the front of the car. It did not bend the bumper mounting brackets. I figured it would but did not. Then my breakdown engine crane. I had it all already, didn't buy anything to do it.

There it was together for the first time. I could have got the K bolts in at that point and then a floor jack under the K is how I do it to lift the car after the K is under it.

You can see how good it rolled on creeper wheels...lol Like more skidding than rolling...lol

But then I got this furniture dolly, it sat just a little higher and rolled much better.

I sat the pan of the motor and the pan of the trans on this dolly. The K hung off the front of the motor by the motor mounts. It allowed the K to move some when I bolted it to frame.

The final night I bolted it up. Plenty of room to get a floor jack under the free hanging K with nothing under it at this point to lift the car. Think about that before you build a cart under your K if you don't have a lift and doing like I did.
Now that dolly is holding 2 small blocks on it still being used.

I vend the US Cartools engine dolly and lift system, and I use them too smile

Super high quality and safe. Made installing the drive train in my Duster a breeze. they are available for all Mopar engines.
