Hi guys, I was wondering since I am replacing all the gauges from my cuda 71, and installing Autometer gauges, do i hook-up the Voltmeter the same way as the original, or is there another method of doing this?

You do not hook it up the same as the factory because the factory was actually an ammeter, measured amperage and not voltage. To hook up your volt guage, just find any wire that is powered with the switch in the ON position that doesn't have a big electrical load already on it and that'll tell you voltage. The directions should tell you how to do it also.

And what do I do with the existing two big wires that used to run for the Amp-meter?

Those 2 wires need to be connected together

You can use a small nut and bolt and wrap it with electrical tape, or do with a proper crimp connector and shrink tubing over it.

In other words the original amp meter wire is positive in and positve out (IE the same 12v wire). The volt meter is a positive wire (12 volt) on one side and neg wire (ground) on the other side.

Or in yet another way..

Ammeter = in series.

Volt meter = in parallel

If you're eliminating the amp gauge anyway, then it might be worth doing this mod while you're at it: http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/amp-gauges.shtml

one of the best cheap, simple, SAFE upgrades you can do, especially if you already have the voltmeter.
