Local lot has a clean one on their lot.Very few options on it which is fine with me.Anything motor or transmission etc I need to be aware of.It has the 4.7 and automatic. TIA!

I've had good luck with them but I keep the oil changed frequently.

I have an 01 Durango with the 4.7. runs great, just uses a lot of oil. It's at 190k and we've driven it all over. Keep an eye on the temp gauge though- itt it overheats once you may be done.

X2 on the overheating. They are bad about popping head gaskets and dropping valve seats. They also require very regular oil changes to prevent timing chain tensioner issues. I'd look for a hemi instead. Especially if you plan on towing anything larger than a riding lawn mower. They are gutless. My $.02.

The timing chain guides are plastic and just break from the heat after some years, nothing to do with the oil change. Rockers comonly start falling off randomly by 150,000, that may be prolonged with very routine oil changes but I have seen it on some very well maintained ones. Head gaskets are pretty much gauranteed to blow if it ever overheats, they do not like overheating at all. They are dogs powerwise, the HO version is noticably better than the standard one though still lacking in the TQ department. The auto trans they used behind them seems to hold up really well, I replaced a solonoid in one and a rooster comb detent thingy in one is about all the internal problems I have seen.

Mopar decided you needed to buy a new truck, or a new motor every 150K, so they made the rockers start jumping off about then.

There are a whole lot of reasons not to buy a Mopar with a 2.7, a 3.7. or a 4.7, though some have had great luck from all of them, from what I hear, the odds are against you. Gene

Yes I know of the .7 curse.Why my 12 Challenger RT has three pedals with a 5.7.No VVT issues.This is replacing a 85 Dodge truck.I guess its an upgrade.At least the lower control arm isnt seperating itself from the K member.

the rocker is held on by the lifter on one end, the valve on the other and is triangulated into place where the cam and roller meet in the middle of the rocker pushing down on the lifter (technically a lash adjuster), when the lobe is pushing down on the valve while parked it can slowly bleed down the lifter, when you start the engine and the lifter has been bled down the lobe goes off the rocker and there is about 1/4 inch slack so it just falls out. As the miles go on the lifter wears and can bleed down faster after a shutdown so it will fall out after a shorter interval of sitting. Also the oil pump and bearings wear and so you lose a tiny bit of oil pressure/volume and the lifters can't pump up as fast on start up so you got several factors that build up to cause the problem, that is why I say very dilagent oil change routines help, they keep wear and sludge to a minimum. I have seen some where a new set of lifters cure it and some where it didn't make a difference they just keep falling out. I have had some success draining the oil and putting in a gallon of diesel fuel and letting it idle for 20 minutes to clean em out then change oil and filter.
