Played hooky on Friday and took a ride to Maple Grove to sit in the stands with the bees, see a co-worker's S/G effort, and watch some S/S, Stock, and some AH action.
There were plenty of Mopars in attendance and they all ran great, especially Steve Comella's AH run of 8.38 and Scott Gove who was really cooking.

My friend was down there with his Firebird stocker.
Said the bite was quite good.

I am pretty impressed with Larry Hills 440-6 combo running 9.80's in Stock.

I was there Saturday and Sunday with 11secdart running in 11:50 index but a fuel delivery problem kept me from getting past first round despite having a much better reaction time, really enjoyed it anyhow for the second year in a row and will go next year if they run the index classes. So many cool and fast cars including the ultra cool AH cars.

I saw all the favorite cars listed above, and agree! This trip really filled my head.
What's amazing is that all these cars that were out there when I started watching in the late 80's are still there. Like a time vacuum!
The new muscle looks and runs good too. Was suprised to see as many V10 Challengers- I suppose the special body in white cars?

I am teasing a Pontiac guy at the job about this car. Do you know the engine combo? Thanks!

Lots of great cars there, and way fast. Larry went 9.80 @133 in round 3. He went 9.80 three times in eliminations.

400, D-port heads, 4 speed.
Q-jet, iron intake, .421 lift hyd cam.

I find it inspiring how well some of these old school combos run with basic stuff.
The motor he was running that weekend is unbelievably basic.
Trw pistons and still has regular 5/64 rings in it.

Best that weekend was 10.73 @ 124.4, 3450lbs.

And yes, it's incredible what you can yield out of the OE parts and the strict stock rules.

There was another Mopar in attendance I forgot to mention, and a fellow Islander- Dave LeClaire. He was there with his Native American, which is another car that's been around forever. He's got it running real well, and I'm not sure if this is the exact same car he's always ran but if it is, it's a gennie '67 RO car.

He uses that stuff because the rules say so. Plenty of new school tech and tricks to make it run like that.

I went to dinner with my friend who has the Firebird last night and mentioned that comment.

We got a good chuckle out of it.

The only "trick" part in that motor is the Schubeck lifters.

Many of the mid-pack old school stocker combos are prime examples of just how important getting the combination sorted out is.
