Upgrading to 1350 joints. Can I install the yoke on my dana 60 by holding the brakes for example. If so, what do I torque it to? Or are there any tricks to it without removing the rearend. Is this just asking for something bad to happen? Thanks for your response in advance.

Restoring a car to look "only" as good as the factory made it is like getting a boob job for your wife and having the doctor make them two different sizes to seem more natural

The factory service manual calls for 250 FT lb of torque on the pinion nut, if I remember correctly. I have always used a big pipe wrench on the pinion yoke and a big cheater on the 1/2 breaker bar with the proper size socket on it, a 3/4 inch breaker bar is better if you have one availble I usually end up standing on the end of the six foot cheater pipe on the breaker bar and have someone hold the rear end housing, this is out of the car on the shop floor usually In the car you might have a hard time getting the pinion nut tight enough, it can be done so go for it, be careful though

Mancini and others makes a tool to hold the yoke with a breaker bar as you use an impact gun to loosen and tighten the yokes nut, this will help alot and stop the pinion from hurting the ring gear in anyway.

The Dana 60 uses shims and not a crush sleeve so taking the yoke on and off will not hurt anything that way.

Torque spec is somewhere around 250 ft lbs but tight as you can get it with an impact works too!

While you have the yoke off it isn't a bad ideal to change the pinion seal AND pinion nut. Adding a little bit of red lock tite on the nut will help ya sleep at night (so will a shot of JD and a girl named Sally, but that is whole nother story!)

Check this thread also covers near the same thing you asked!

The safety guy just called and said make sure you use enough jackstands to support the car while you are under it, I told him you knew that already...

Dana 60 Seal replacement

Hope this helps...
