The only reason those cars aren't in the 9's is because they have a roll bar....no cage.

Chris,
According to a post on classracer.com by Chuck Norton two of the mustangs were taken to Phil Mandella Racecars about two weeks ago to have the balance of tubing added for a cage. Ford only installed a 8 point roll bar in the cars.

As of right now the Challenger is not even classified yet so they can not run. FYI Robert Pond went a 9.76 yesterday in Q2. 2100' so get that car in good air and 9.50's are in reach. Funny how supercharged package cars were never allowed in Stock until this year. I see the Roush P51 package Mustangs are legal too. Ford must have quite an in at Glendora.

How did the Fords get classified so quick? Probably by sending a truck load of money to Glendora via Force he`s such a hero they`ll do anything or him. I hate to say it but typical Mopar always one step behind.

Ford built 50 of these cars and they all were sold before they were even built. None of the cars were given away to racers, all were purchased. There will be a second run of 2010 cars built much the same way. I know a supplier who is already building parts for the 2010 cars. Ford has a drag racer now in charge of Ford Racing, Brian Wolfe. He was one of the founders of the Pro 5.0 class and is still a racer. He knows what real racers want and need. These cars have created more of a buzz in sportsman drag racing than any car I can ever remember. They are truely the offspring of the '68 CJ Mustangs. Love them or hate them (I love em') they are the result of an automaker getting involved in real world sportsman drag racing not some carbon fiber replicar. Every part to build these cars is in the Ford Racing catalog.
Chrysler has dropped the ball with the drag pack Challenger. I hope they get the ball rolling with the project. It would be great to see them running against these great Mustangs.

No challenger package cars there today, the cj mustangs ran hard and fast though they looked pretty stupid with there retro ford dealer names on them. One even had Gas Ronda's name on the door, pretty hokey if you ask me. Gary Stinnett ran 135 with his at 10.0, but dumped it at the finish line. Waldo's car was impressive also but he's always had fast cars
So did you think Pannela's Sox & Martin tribute pro stocker was hokey ? These cars are a tribute to the 1968 CJ cars that raced and won at Pomona in '68. The original drivers including Gas Ronda, Al Joniec and Hubert Platt are there with the cars this weekend. If you appreciated drag racing history you wouldn't think it was "hokey".
The cars that are racing this weekend have cages in them and the drivers are licensed.
To answer your question, NO!! On the S&M cars the paint schemes looked like the days of old, the CJ mustangs look like lettering that a 5 yr old would do if he or she was showing you their idea of a racecar. I more than enjoyed watching that 427 Ford station wagon run like a raped ape, but even if those personalities were there to watch them race these tribute cars they could have done a better job in how they looked. Just my opinion on that so take it for what it's worth. Al Corda's ride was more than impressive as was Bobby DeArmonds Camaro, the CJ's just didn't impress me with their throwback style tributes. As for caring for drag racing history, yes I do as I have both tuned and raced the former Maverick '63 Aluminum front end car before it wound up back on the east coast and my wifes uncle is James Warren of the famous Warren, Coburn & Miller TF dragster team. In short, if that's there idea of how a throwback car should look, IMO they missed it by a mile.

They are letterd exactly as the original cars were. Not sure what you are looking for??
Chris Whitney owns the Fairlane wagon. He and Robert Pond just took delivery of a new '09 CJ Mustang.

Looks like Ford got it done...
Results for Final Round
POMONA, Calif. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 7 eliminations in Stock Eliminator at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Kragen O'Reilly NHRA Winternationals: W/L Driver Class Dial RT ET Ov/Un (W) John Calvert A/S 10.14 0.085 10.136 -0.004 (L) Tom Gaynor D/SA 10.73 -0.079(R)10.730 0.000
11:33 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 65 degrees, relative humidity 26 percent, barometer 29.04 inches, adjusted altitude 1,566 feet, track temperature 74 degrees. We have our first final of the day.
Both cars had easy ones in the last round and this is a big disappointment for Gaynor, as he runs right on his dial, but was -0.079 red. Calvert takes the 2008 Mustang to the winner circle!

Here is one of our Dealers who races M & M Racing's 69 Cobra Jet. It's a cool vid, showing a nice race of two CJ's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9tcnZk-xAA

Regardless of how John got to the final,it's a huge win for Ford to have their new car collect the Wally in it's debut.
