If you are definitely going to turbo it, it is hard to beat just a stock camshaft, especially if you are staying with a carb.

When I turboed a motor. I sent a core to Comp to have custom reground. I told them what i had and we figured something out together. I went with lower lift and high duration (compared to a H.O. naturally aspirated). It didn't cost too much. I don't know what a slant turbo would need off hand. Goto Slant6.org.

There are lots of turboed members there, I know Slantzilla is a member there as well.

I can change the cam later if needed. I have a few trucks with them so thats not a problem. Just want a good cam for the 4bbl rite now.

I am running the stock cam, Offy intake, Holley 390 and dual exhaust. I'm happy with it.

Unless you are going to add headers, converter, and some gear a bigger cam is meaningless in a Slant and will probably slow you down.

I have to agree with that.

I run a slant six quite a bit and have learned alot about what to do and what is overkill.

Me and a friend make our own intakes and headers. We have fun and dont spend a pile of money doing it.

As far as a cam goes I love the mopar performance
.436 cam. It builds good low end torque and the specs make it seem like it would be perfect for a turbo engine as well. Most turbo engines especially slant six's tend to run better with a small or even stock cam. Problem here is that mopar performance quit making parts for the slant six and the cams are very hard to come by. So Im guessing the best bet would be a comp cams 252s or the 264s. I believe the 440 lift one would be ideal, which I believe is the 264s IIRC..(264 has more duration)

If you want a little more bottom end grunt and have 3.55-3.73 gears with increased compression an Isky 152116 (again IIRC) is a strong cam. This is a sweet performing street cam. But without headers I wouldnt bother putting a cam in one. This one is 448 lift.

Shave the head .100 to get around 9:1 comp.

Have fun..

Im building a slant drag car at the moment..and am having all grades of fun

If it takes 4 or so times to ask the same cam questions, I'd be afraid

BTW.. I ran a .505 lift 305 duration in my 265... close to a stock 6 pack cam. Ran nicely

I normally only visit the truck section. I was just covering all the bases
I plan to run headers.

You mean if I put a super6 intake and carb with the mild MP cam I have with stock manifold and 2 1/4" exhaust it will be a pig?

I thought it was designed with that in mind.

We do a lot of custom cams for the slant 6 engine. We could work with you to come up with something to work real good with what you are doing. If you get a chance call here and ask for Dave. Tell him you were on Moparts.com and I told you to call. By the way, we also have double roller timing chain sets and a chrome valve cover for that engine.
Good luck,
Kevin @ Hughes Engines, inc

Who's chain is that? And is that the non baffled Chinese valve cover?

The valve cover does not have baffles. We have tacked baffles into them before and it worked good. Mainly they are for looks.
The timing chain sets are made in the U.S.A. by Pro Gear. They are very high quality sets.

One thing you have to remember Rug, most any mild cam will not show much if any improvement over a stock cam.

For comparison, the smallest cam I will even bother putting in a Slant will have at least .500" lift. Anything lass than that is a waste of time to me.

You also have to remember that I have gone faster with a box-stock longblock than a lot of people have with "race" motors. The trick to making a Slant run is not necessarily in the motor itself, you can't stop at the firewall.

And yes, most anything that still has a Super Six on it will be a pig.
