I have wondered this too. I have 278,000 on my 2007 Ram 5.7.
The core support has a center section that unbolts. Maybe the radiator and A/C stuff needs to come out so the engine has a lower liftover to clear the front bumper?

I plan to pull the complete radiator and all that stuff haven't got under it to really look good but looks real tight on the Trans bolts and just lifting it out from under the cowl..I guess I'll get started in the am ..plan to order the engine when I get this1 out as I need the valve covers oil pan and all the front stuff as well..

It has been a lot easier to me to pull the intake when it comes to the bell housing bolts. There is a good bit of stuff that has to go to pull the intake though. Coils have to go and the heater hoses plus the injectors. Coils and intake bolts are 10mm, four 8mm bolts hold the fuel rail. There is an aluminum piece that bolts around the oil pan and to the transmission should be 15mm bolts that needs to be removed to get to the converter bolts. Be easy on the bolts holding the exhaust manifolds on they are small.

many years ago i changed out a 4.7 in a durango,i borrowed the factory lifting jig from the closest dealer,as i recall i needed two long metric bolts to screw into the intake to mount the jig, turns out the long motor mount bolts were the exact right thing

my ladder of success is missing some rungs

When you pull the rad/fan You'll be able to stand inside the engine compartment and access things easier. just make sure you have your tools handy. If you get the lift jig from the dealer ask for the two long bolts mention above. (they come on jeep 4.7 engines)
