After disassembly I noticed this area looks to have been repaired on my 71 Duster 340 K-frame. My 73 doesn't look like this.
Can anyone tell me if this is correct?
Thanks in advance.

Yep that has been repaired. frown

The car probably was owned by someone that neglected the lower control arm bushings until they went metal to metal. After that, the thin tube and meager weld in the K member starts to rattle loose.
When I prep a K member to install into a car, I'll weld washers to the area and grind it all smooth. The guy that did that just did a quickie job. It can be tuned up though. While out, I'd weld a washer on the other side to be safe. Be careful to use a washer thin enough to NOT push the LCA rearward by any amount. THIS causes a loss in caster!

Common problem on A-body K-members. The factory even knew it was an issue because on 340 cars, they added a half circle piece of metal around the area to beef it up.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll make it look like my 73 K-frame.
The exterior weld is actually very nice, inside, not so much. Even the paint looked factory.

I wrecked my 70 Duster back in 1982 and it punched the K member pretty bad. Had to have it welded up like that

I've repaired a lot of K members that way. The damage isn't limited to A body K members, it happened across the board.

They really didn't like the load the big tires put on them on the local dirt tracks. Gene

Thanks for the photos Tim.
Looks like the driver side of mine hasn't been repaired.

The repair is on the right, factory on the left.

The photo shows what appears to be no difference. The first picture in this thread shows a full washer welded on. The last picture shows a semi circle washer.
Are you sure that you didn't mix up the pictures?
