May I ask why you are wanting to elim it? You could dial down the reg as is & see how it goes (if that can be done). My eddy 1406 dripped at ~2K with no regulation & that was with a parts house "airtex" mech pump but I have subsequently heard that they put out quite high pressure (for what you think a stock unit would be providing)

hook a vac gauge to manifold vac port & see what your vac is at WOT up thru the gears. if over 1 in hg then a bigger carb will likely benefit you at WOT but how much time do you spend at WOT. street. street/strip. dragger only. which is your situation

Leave the regulator on there. The AFB is not fond of pressures over 6 psi. I normally kept mine between 4-5 psi and never ran the bowls dry, even when blowing through it with the turbos.

alot of (fuel) aftermarket gauges ain't accurate but if it don't flood & dont starve then all is good in the 'hood I verified my fuel pressure 3 summers ago when I was having trouble with a miss under load. Took my moroso 0-15 psi tire gauge that has been checked at the NHRA nationals many times(my crew would have it checked several times a year for free at the races) and layed it on my outside windshield under the windshield wiper and drove around with it. I had 7 pounds under load and 8-9 psi at idle. I can't get my picture to upload that shows the psi gauge as I am driving down the road because photo bucket has me locked out. I think I owe them money? Turned out that I needed fresh spark plugs, I had like 10K miles on them. My manual choke is hard on them. I am sure of the pressures that I speak of.

I just went through this, too. Do not put more pressure than Edelbrock says it can handle. My AVS can take 6.5 psi, and that's what the Carter pump I use puts out. Even then, I think there's too much pressure. I changed the jets and rods and it still runs very rich. A regulator will be my next step.
