Painter got it Sept of last year. Got the email today,,,its FINALLY in paint. 1968 Charger RT , 440 4 spd , 3.54 Dana In its original EE1 Dark Blue poly. , originally black interior but the owner is going with white int and a white tail stripe. And he decided to make to upgrade it a 4.10 Dana ( engine is NOT stock and we think the 4.10s will really liven it up)

Looks good! so glad I got mine to the guys doing it. Brought it by in March or so, and they are wet sanding now. Never understood why so many shops take years to get a car done. I guess they are big on getting them in and getting that down payment to spent on present bills.
Taxidermists are similar, some don't know when they need to stop taking in new orders, and become backlogged for years.

The power train in the car is far from stock,,,,, and we think the 4.10s will be a better fit.
It'll have a 275-60-15 tire on the rear to offset it to some degree. Also upgrading to power steering and power disc brakes . owner is toying with the idea to hang aftermarket AC on it ,,just for giggles

Paint jail blows, went through that on my first car 25 years ago that took almost 2 years for a "friend" it get just the body finished.
That's one of the main reasons I have been doing 100% of the work on my cars in house. If you work 40 hrs. per week on a car and have 1,000 hrs. in it (on the high side), that's 6 months. I've been doing one car per year and not touching them all summer.

Thanks for posting pics of the new paint. Love that color. Here's a Charger with the same color/stripe combo. Beautiful car! http://www.collectioncar.com/detailed.php?ad=23753&category_id=1&lang=bgMy Dart will be EE1, and hopefully soon. Been 4 long years since it has seen the road. When i told the paint guy that it's ready he said "be patient". S***...it may be a couple more years.

I took my challenger to Jim Boitnott, you know him.
He had done 4 dragsters for me prior and all 4 dragster jobs were all nighters for him and I got them back within 2-4 days. Top alcohol dragsters are big and take up a lot of room in his shop. Plus he loved doing custom paint work.
My challenger was done in 12 days. I went up to his shop just about everyday after work to checkout the progress and look at the time cards=how many hours I was being billed for. He did a nice job...both times he painted it. lol No way I would leave my car somewhere for months or years at a time. I did have 80% of the body work done when I took it to Boitnotts. He had 2-3 guys a day working on it, I saw everyone's time cards.
In the racing business things move fast, sometimes back to back weekends. So Jimmy never strung me along, same with my street car.
The charger looks good. 4:10s are gonna be tough to deal with like said. 3:55s are so much nicer. My 440 354 dana will absolutely destroy the tires on the roll at about 30 mph. No need for deep gears with a good running BB.

Yikes, 3 months was long enough for me! I was very relieved to see quick progress from Ward's, they held up their timing commitment very well!

Who did your paint work?
Gary, the cars owner found the guy who painted it thru a mutual friend of theirs. His name is Tom Weber , up near Hamilton off rt 4. He is a paint rep for Smythe and does paint / body work on the side . It took him twice as long as planned, but it looks really nice in person . Best part he stuck to his original estimate to the dollar. And as for the 4.10 Dana, that was entirely the owners choice. The body had a an 8-3/4 in it when he bought it. But with it being an original 4spd car he wanted to put a Dana back in it. He got this one from a friend of ours at a REALLY good price. The engine isnt stock by a long shot and I'm sure will be a brute once its done later this spring. Hopefully with a 275/60-15 tire on reproduction chrome magnums will offset it to some degree. The hardest part is he bought this car as a rusty rolling shell. And we've spent a lot of time searching out parts and pieces thru-out the entire project from the beginning. If all goes well the next few days. I'm actually planning to start it for the 1st time later this week . Got all the undercoating done yesterday and started hanging exhaust this morning. Owner is coming down Saturday to take a look. Im having power steering pump bracket ( federal pump ) to water pump housing fit issues right now that I need to work out. He lives in Englewood Ohio just north west of Dayton. And works over on the east side of Dayton. So anyone from the area the odds of seeing it on the road from time to time up there is a good possibility.
