I measured the rails where the valve covers sit on the trick flow heads and they are almost 1/2 inch narrow than stock heads.
I have tried 3 times to get the valve covers to stop leaking without success. I've already had one fire from oil on my new TTI headers.
I spoke to a tech at Trick Flow and he said this is the first he heard of this.
Anyone have the same issue?
What did you do for valve covers?
I have a stock set, a new aftermarket steel set and the cast Mopar Performance covers. They all measure the same.
The problem is the heads are too narrow where the valve covers sit.
Any suggestions?

Can you post a picture with the cover off, but a gasket on? Sounds very strange.

I don't have a picture like you ask but I know that the gasket overhangs a little on top and bottom. I made a cardboard template of the width of TF head and compared it to a valve cover. This Edelbrock valve cover measures the same width as a stock one.

From that pic, I cant see how the head would even have the bolt holes in it.

I will investigate more once I get home from work in a couple of hours and report back with more pictures.
Stay tuned.

No doubt that most cast covers are wider than the heads. I've pointed this out in several threads in the past. I even have a little valve cover template which I use to measure valve covers.

The TF gasket rails might be a tiny bit narrower than a cast iron head but it isn't much. I know that the combination of a Mopar cast valve cover and a TF head doesn't work very well but the 440Source valve covers look like they fit the TF head fairly well.

I have a set of new 440Source valve covers if you're interested. I've lined them up on my TF heads and I don't see any problems with them. Might be roughly 0.060 of overhang which should work okay.

I made my own valve covers for this engine and they line up perfectly.

Here is my template on the TF head and on the Mopar valve cover. The Mopar valve cover is much wider than it needs to be and will not work with a rubber type gasket, but you can get it to work with a FelPro 1612 gasket.

Here is a picture of the template matched up with the 440Source valve covers. The other picture shows the 440Source valve covers on the engine.

Are those based on the 440 Source covers?
If not- are you selling pairs of those you built for the 470 build?
I need a set of covers that clear the HS rockers ( only 630 lift solid roller cam) as well as having clearance for an MSD Pro Billet Dist.

As always, thanks for your help.

I'll sell the pair of blue covers that are in the picture above. They are billet covers with an extra thick rail and are drilled and tapped for #12 o-ring fittings. They will clear a MSD distributor and they clear the HS rockers. (or at least they cleared the set I used) PM me for a price. They are billet covers so they aren't cheap but they are probably the last set of valve covers you'll ever need to buy. Add some Cometic valve cover gaskets and you'll never have any oil leaks.

My Superformance valve cover gaskets worked great with the cheapo Summit/440 source/Indy cast aluminum valve cover. I'd try the Summit cast covers and a set of you r favorite gaskets. Stamped steel and the MP finned covers are both headaches on an aluminum head.

Correction, MP finned aluminum covers are a pain on any cylinder head with any gasket until they have been surfaced. Might as well break out a tube of The Right Stuff and I'll send you my gold aluminum Moroso covers.

I recently installed a set of Cometic valve cover gaskets after Andy F's suggestion here on Moparts. I have nothing but good results to report about them, they DON'T leak. They also install dry, as in they don't need any RTV or gasket sealer to install (which is awesome!). I would HIGHLY suggest everyone give them a try. I've tried just about every valve cover gasket around (not going to name names) and no other valve cover gasket I've tried was oil leak free, except the new ribbed rubber style Cometic valve cover gaskets. I don't enjoy oil leaking on hot headers causing fires. I'm using cast aluminum valve covers on Edelbrock RPM aluminum big block Chrysler heads. They fit just fine also.

Here are few recent informative Moparts posts on this subject:

I am running the Indy no logo cast aluminum VC with Superformance Carbon X gaskets, just a little grind work at the distributor location and my MSD fit's, snug but fits.

Anyone know if the 440 source cast covers will clear the MSD billet distributer?

Thanks
